Yes I am victim blaming, and no I don’t care: the entire industry has used fear as the cornerstone of its marketing for years; threatening people’s way of life in the abstract while damaging the economy, stealing peoples work etc. You don’t get to walk that back just because it became real for you.

Going to be featured on my job's social media and I would honestly feel less dread if I were getting publicly executed

The AI as God thing really separates the actual antitheists from the posers. I will assemble friends and kill that computer as a service to our dignity as a species.

Just a quick update from the Twin Cities. (Please forgive the unsolicited message). THINGS ARE NOT BETTER IN MINNEAPOLIS. The media is mostly moving on, Trump is focused on other stuff, BUT NOTHING HAS CHANGED ON THE GROUND. More than 2,000 DHS thugs continue to roam the streets, abducting people 24/7, assaulting legal observers with impunity, and routinely denying 1st, 4th, and 5th amendment rights. Drones and helicopters are overhead every day. Hundreds and hundreds of terrified families have not left their homes since mid-December ... relying on the community to bring them food and help with rent and other necessities. (Those people are NOT violent drug cartel sex offending murderers, as DHS would tell you. Most are legal residents or citizens.) If anything, things have just become more stressful and intractable (think trench warfare as a suitable metaphor): The resistance is better organized and numerous, but DHS has become more clever and better at disguise... and the county sheriff's office is increasingly supporting them . Do not let anyone tell you that Homans (the new person in charge of the occupation) is making anything better. Do not let anyone tell you that 700 ICE agents leaving the city has made much of a difference; the remaining force (again, ~2,000) is still larger than the entire city's police force (which is legally unable to do anything). Please call your congressional reps ... especially if there is any chance the administration might listen to them.

A desperate plea sent to me by a Minneapolis resident who's been on the front lines since the beginning of the ICE occupation:

Cincinnati enquirer headline about how Ohio depends on immigrants for growth

Cincinnati enquirer headline about how Ohio depends on immigrants for growth

Love and support you always, Cincinnati Enquirer (support local media), but esp today

This is a Midwest daily paper. About as middle of the road as you can get

& they understand that this is an objective, straight news headline, in the context of a planned Trump/GOP onslaught in Springfield, etc

If you'd told me, a decade ago, that the rising concept of the 'influencer' would one day serve as a transmission belt for the elevation of subliterate clowns seeking to provoke pogroms in exchange for promotional deals with online betting companies, I'd probably have said, "That tracks."

“….There's nothing surprising about that (a bunch of rich and powerful dudes going to child rape island) to any woman you might pull off the street.

“A sociologist I used to teach years ago did research into how masculinity couches bonding in transgression: frat boys breaking rules, groups of men going to strip bars together, etc.  A darker version of "boys will be boys" that we now recognize as the bigger problem it is.

“The rape of children here accomplishes: 1. complete dominance of the weak, 2. Belonging to a secret club, 3. Breaking the ultimate social taboo. All of those are in service of ego and the worst expression of how they perceive masculine bonding.

“To me it's even more upsetting and gross because the collective experience of rape, the performance in front of other men, is titillating to them more than the actual act is. but this is all a familiar dimension to men in our culture that women recognize. It just usually doesn't take this extreme an expression.”

Power is relative. The "powerful elite" can be members of your local church. Boosters & coaches for your local team. Frat houses. If we listened to girls long ago instead of men & how they choose to frame sexual abuse as individualized, anomalies, we wouldn't keep being shocked.

The Epstein emails should really end the debate over whether society should have billionaires. "Do you want there to be a class of people so powerful they can fuck your kids and no one will even try to do anything" seems like an easy sell if everyone in politics wasn't trying to get on their payroll

i think I despise genAI because art is one of the things that has kept me alive and breathing and genAI is yet another way for capital to pervert art and stop us from connecting with each other

I love The Pitt but every single episode has an experienced doctor turn to a newbie and say something like "This is an increasing problem in America, these days. It requires a systemic solution but unfortunately it falls to us ER doctors to handle as the sole point of contact w the welfare state."

there are people going out in the freezing cold and literally putting their lives on the line in defense of their communities and the multicultural secular society they believe in. not interested in what some online wannabe dnc consultant type wants to tell me what is and isn't possible now

someone in a nail polish subreddit created a shade that matches the one in this photo and is selling it on etsy so she can afford to buy her boyfriend a bulletproof vest to wear while doing ICE watch at home depot. we live in hell but we are going to fucking win.

they didn’t leak it to make the shooter look innocent, but to make the victim look guilty. not guilty of a crime. guilty of having a visibly queer wife. guilty of liberalism. guilty of opposing the regime. they don’t seek to exonerate themselves, only to demonstrate who deserves to die.
