'In the tumultuous years since the creation of the Harvard and the Legacy of Slavery Initiative, three memorial committee members have stepped down and researchers have been fired largely over disputes related to engaging descendant communities.'
Tell the truth and get fired.
All strength to Rumeysa Ozturk, who announced today she will be returning to Turkey.
Rumeysa was arrested and detained by immigration agents last year as part of ongoing pro-Palestine repression.
Last week, fed administration fired the immigration judge who rejected DHS efforts to deport her.
Explosive & really outrageous revelations in here about a billionaire's private surveillance network completely run amok.

In “Censorship and Surveillance at US Universities,” Torin Monahan details the expansive apparatus used by university administrations, often following federal or state political pressures, to police pro-Palestine and progressive speech on campuses across the country.

Two years ago on April 17th, the first Gaza Solidarity Encampment at Columbia University was erected. The next day, 100+ students were arrested in an NYPD sweep. That same afternoon even more students occupied the lawn, and the second encampment was born.
In response to what they describe as foot-dragging by the administration in contract negotiations, student workers at Columbia University have authorized a strike.
We spoke to some of them about their demands.
🙄 Anyways
Authorities have arrested 26 year old Alexander Heifler after he planned to target Palestinian activist Nerdeen Kiswani, co-founder of Within Our Lifetime, with Molotov cocktails. Nerdeen says that Betar has incited against her and her family for months: abc7ny.com/post/fbi-dis...
“I don’t know what to say. I’m free! I’m free! Finally, after one year.”
Kordia also said she would keep fighting on behalf of people still being held at the detention center.
“There is a lot of injustice in this place,” she said. “There is a lot of people that shouldn’t be here the first place.”
"Leqaa Kordia, a 33yo from the West Bank who has lived in New Jersey since 2016, had been held in a U.S. immigration detention center in Texas since last March. Kordia was among roughly 100 people arrested outside Columbia University during protests at the school in 2024."

We voted YES to authorize a strike by a whopping 91.5%! Columbia won’t budge on protecting student workers from an authoritarian takeover and a cost-of-living crisis—it’s time to turn up the pressure.
We’re encouraged by the many Columbia affiliates speaking out in this letter against the University’s repression of Palestinian voices. As we mobilize for a strike, SWC remains committed to the fight for academic freedom for all members of our community.

Powerful article!
“I believe that all of the securitization of campus exists to police the students,” said Srinivasan, the Indian PhD student targeted by ICE. “It does not actually exist to protect the students from ICE.”
EMERGENCY RALLY TODAY AT 12:00 PM
At the gates at 116th and Broadway to protest the detention of an undergraduate from a Columbia University building this morning
Early this morning, DHS entered Columbia University housing and abducted another student.
This is the result of Columbia refusing the union’s demands for substantive protections for international students.
Yesterday, student workers picketed for Columbia University to reassert itself as a sanctuary campus and include more protections for international students in their next contract. @swcolumbia.bsky.social also opened a strike authorization vote on Friday.

ICE is executing civilians. ICE is trafficking children. ICE is kidnapping our coworkers and neighbors. Columbia University must end its complicity with ICE. 🧵
