This is a really important piece. I have a thing coming out tomorrow making a similar argument: that our current ed-policy situation is analogous the period between Brown v. Board (1954) and Green v. New Kent (1968), and that this is really discombobulating for ed researchers generally.

There’s so much to say about the remarkable reporting from Jodi Kantor & Adam Liptak—and I’ll say a lot of it in Monday’s newsletter.
But the most striking thing about all of it is the role & behavior of Chief Justice Roberts. “Calling balls and strikes” this ain’t:

I’m surprised by how often I think about a line from Toni Morrison’s SULA: “…more tranquil than the curve of eggs.”
What an image. The first time I read it, I was so startled that I went in the kitchen and got an egg out the damn fridge to look at its curve.

First time seeing this late ‘60s Orange Bowl pic of my dad (cracked nose) playing for the Miami Dolphins (I’m including the team’s full name for my fellow non-sports-following brethren). Today’s his 87th birthday, and he’s still practicing law in Dallas, his very fruitful second career. I love him.

No luck so far with my quest to set up my sister with fellow vegan nature-loving northerner Jack from @theguardian.com's First Dates.
Not to be all Austen but I'm *this close* to emailing the Guardian with her contact details and a note to send to Jack. He does actually sound perfect for her!
You're welcome!
