They were brilliant m, but I hope they get the support they need after this. The drivers especially. I was just behind the drivers cabin and that was bad enough. Can’t imagine seeing it full on. ❤️🙏🏼

Thoughts and prayers for everyone effected and involved.
@crosscountryuk.bsky.social very sad and tragic incident today near Ely. Many thanks to air ambulance and emergency services who attended. Huge appreciation to the train staff involved. They were all terrific in a tough situation. As a passenger onboard I can’t praise you enough. Thanks
Spot the difference! Polecats and invasive American mink can be confused, especially at a distance.
Look for the dark bandit mask on the face of the polecat, and the mask-less face of mink.

The 'Chicago' specimen of Archaeopteryx, the 'first bird', and only the 13th to be described, presents a wealth of new information about the skeleton, soft tissues and plumage of this iconic taxon. 🧪👇

A quick early morning dash from Edinburgh across the Forth to try for a White-winger Scoter resulted in 1 male for sure, a pair of Surf Scoter, plus many Velvet and Common (200+). Red-throated Diver, Red-breasted Merganser and a pair of Long-tailed Duck. Back in time for breakfast and check-out! 😜😎
Got here first light, no birds, then just before sunrise they started coming in. I moved from Buckhaven to East Wemyss. By time I got here must be mixed flock of 200 birds. Saw 1 White-winged male and pair Surf. Cheers
Great thanks. It’s likely I’ll go early 6am tomorrow.
I’m in Edinburgh this weekend. I fancy going across. Would you have any more info? I don’t know area at all. Location, tides etc? TIA

Had the pleasure of a young female and an older male Nuthatch together. Great to see all the feature at the same time. My favourite bird 🥰
Trapped Weasel. Relocated to where it can misbehave in peace!

Getting stroppy with a winch 🌳🌲⛓️🪚🥵💪🏼
There doesn’t appear to be anything awful about this. Seems more like a privilege to catch something so wonderful. Often the best wildlife encounters are those most unexpected (so most unprepared)!
Nocturnal birds!!!

What better way be to start a Sunday. Birding ringing at Wicken Fen. Yeah, yeah I know about lie-ins and full English 🙄
Not as much fun as a quad but useful in a totally different way. AVT driving at Chippenham Fen.
@cambsbirdclub.bsky.social birding with Ely10. On Sunday, 5 of us braved the elements. The thermometer read -6 🥶🥶🥶 at 06.45. Sadly the 🎯 of 100 species 🦅🦆🦢 wasn’t hit but we managed a healthy 95!
Highlights included

Spent today chopping down potentially dangerous standing dead trees by the paths through NE Cavenham Heath NNR and storm fallen trees blocking the paths. Great fun and another day of honest hard work. 🌳🪚💪🏼👷🏽
Good honest work on a lovely fresh day. Clearing scrape islands ready for the new bird nesting season. From dense vegetation to clear ground. Now just to add some more gravel. 🪹🪺🐣🐣🦆🦢
I swapped pipettes, centrifuges, and microscopes recently for a whole new set of skills and tools… #outdoorwork #forestry #lantra
