thinking of doing a 'Revisiting' series to return to games i already reviewed and see if i can reappraise them
helps that the newest version of Cemu doesn't require any external applications that mimic downloading from the Nintendo eShop

Metal Gear Solid Delta: Not Feeling It
Not so much a takedown of the game itself, but an appraisal of the trajectory of video game remakes in the wake of RE2 (2019) onwards

Beat Metal Gear 2 for the first time
Bit harder to get into from MG1 bc I had to relearn how sightlines worked, but I can see the blueprint that led to MGS1
Again, supports my theory that Kojima's design is borne from Adventure Game Logic (looking at you, Owl)
Beat Metal Gear Solid 2 again after so many years
It's a cliche, but Kojima's prescience about the digital age will forever be his greatest quality as a writer
The throughline from this to the modern Metal Gears and even Death Stranding is a straight shot
Beat Metal Gear for the first time
Hit a wall at some point and consulted a walkthrough
Worth playing to see the early gestation of Kojima's ideas, but supports my theory that his immersive design is rooted in Adventure Game Logic instead of an im-sim background
Beat Snatcher for the first time
Out of everything, I'm surprised at how "short" it is
Fallout 4 owes Kojima money
Going through the Mightreya playtest
No tutorial yet, but I'm getting the hang of combat and how meters factor in damage
I see where WZN's come from the Overclock system in Assault Spy and mixed in some Bayo-isms

Went back to the Aeromachina demo to see if I could find a better method
You don't have to keep the afterburner revved up if you're not gonna use it - just rev it preemptively when you know you need the burst
Doublejumping after every bunny hop maintains speed and handles turns better
I think Alan Wake 2 gets close
Manages to pull off the Twin Peaks pastiche better than the original and even riffs on The Return and True Detective, all the while examining the fallout of the events of the first game
Trying Out: Mechanical Fury (Demo)
Got early access to a demo that just dropped today and put my thoughts out.

Tried the SSR Wives' demo
in a genre that's got as much overexposure as soulslikes, it manages to stand out from other indie survivor horror games with strong presentation and music
Forgot that if I compress a video into webm with Handbrake, I have to check that it preserves the audio channel or else it’s dead silent by default
video quality here is crunchier than what i posted on Twitter bc of the 100 MB restriction
Tried the Aeromachina demo
Friend told me that once you get all the upgrades, you can really blaze past everything with the shmoovement, and it's almost like bunnyhopping in how you need to time your jumps to preserve your momentum
Downside is the Afterburner's constant noise
Not even trying to be an ass rn, some games just hurt to look at for me
Gonna have to make a self-imposed embargo on covering Cruelty Squad-likes if looking at them for too long gives me a migraine
