Opening text of a thread by Palantir from X
Because we get asked a lot.

The Technological Republic, in brief.

1. Silicon Valley owes a moral debt to the country that made its rise possible. The engineering elite of Silicon Valley has an affirmative obligation to participate in the defense of the nation.

2. We must rebel against the tyranny of the apps. Is the iPhone our greatest creative if not crowning achievement as a civilization? The object has changed our lives, but it may also now be limiting and constraining our sense of the possible.

3. Free email is not enough. The decadence of a culture or civilization, and indeed its ruling class, will be forgiven only if that culture is capable of delivering economic growth and security for the public.

4. The limits of soft power, of soaring rhetoric alone, have been exposed. The ability of free and democratic societies to prevail requires something more than moral appeal. It requires hard power, and hard power in this century will be built on software.

Palantir put out a 22-point summary of their CEO's book The Technological Republic. It's pitched as a defence of the West, but if you read it through the VDA framework, verification, deliberation, accountability, what it's actually doing looks rather different.

💥🇭🇺🗳️ BREAKING: Péter Magyar says Viktor Orbán called to concede and congratulate him.

Magyar will be Hungary’s next prime minister and, as it stands, is set to secure a 2/3 supermajority – enough to fully dismantle Orbán’s system.

Saying "Why do we need humanities if we have LLMs?" is the same as saying "Why do we need math studies if we have calculators?"

But wouldn't you say that a part of the imbalance is that the capabilities of the discovery are widely overestimated or misrepresented? We have to counter that. That could be seen as suppressing the discovery, while it really is just *realisticly* estimating what an impact the discovery might have

Feeling more and more like imagination surrender is a crucial part of the cognitive surrender facilitated by GenAI. Like, why not just have your students write stories featuring their favorite creatures, characters, and people? A wild thought, I know!

AI got the blame for the Iran school bombing. The truth is far more worrying LLMs-gone-rogue dominated coverage, but had nothing to do with the targeting. Instead, it was choices made by human beings, over many years, that gave us this atrocity

“Someone decided to compress the kill chain. Someone decided that deliberation was latency. Someone decided to build a system that produces 1,000 targeting decisions an hour and call them high-quality. Calling it an “AI problem” gives those decisions, and those people, a place to hide.”

To produce as many #Omnibus packages as possible, as fast as possible, the EU Commission is bypassing public consultations

Instead it's using new forms of 'targeted consultations' (Implementation Dialogues & Reality Checks) which function as a transmission belt for corporate #deregulation demands 🤯

No Privileged US Access To Europe’s Tech Law Oversight Civil Society Statement - People vs. Big Tech We, the undersigned civil society organisations call on the EU Commission, in the strongest possible terms, to halt any plans to create a new “dialogue”

No privileged US access to Europe’s tech law oversight.

We call on the European Commission to halt plans for a new “dialogue” with the US that could weaken enforcement of EU tech laws. Cooperation must not come at the expense of rule of law and sovereignty.

People need to understand that it is a good thing if Trump threatens to leave NATO and says the US will not fight for Europe. The truth was the alliance was dead the moment he became president again. The US under him would never fight to defend Europe from Russia. Pretending otherwise was dangerous.
