Disabled and senior people constitute the highest number of deaths in climate disasters like wildfires and flooding due to poor planning and lack of investment by the govt.
Something I wrote about wildfires in Northern CA:

We support trans rights as a matter of public health, human dignity, and every person’s right to live their true self on their own terms.🩷
Here we go with the US v. Skrmetti oral arguments. Here's where you can listen in: www.supremecourt.gov/oral_argumen... And @elienyc.bsky.social, @hegemommy.bsky.social, @garnethenderson.com are all live tweeting (skeeting?). I will have some skeets to add too!
I wish we lived in a world where public health policy is made based on the best available evidence. But the empirical evidence that we do not live in such a world is overwhelming…
There's a huge tension building within public health over collaboration: can we work with the Trump Administration, at whatever few points of overlap in mission exist, to make people healthier? What this misses is the visibility and transparency of that play to the public, and its impact on trust
Since I suspect these might come up again...
1️⃣ It's "mass infection", not "focused protection".
2️⃣ It's "conspiracy theorist", not "critic".
3️⃣ It's "denier", not "skeptic".
4️⃣ It's "unevidenced", "misleading", or "false", not "disagreement".
Bothsidesism and sanewashing are both widespread and 📈.
Come to me tomorrow (11/22) at 10am to hear @zinzinator.bsky.social!
I just wanna point out that the existence of the NLRB and labor unions is the “moderate compromise” option and prior to that things like “running gun battles in the street” and “burning the boss’s house down with everyone in it” were on the table as negotiating tactics
The Scream by Edvard Munch with the person replaced with Moo Deng the baby Pygmy hippo appearing to scream.
Who did this 😂
If you are in the U.S. & are an adult w/ a disability (including LC) or the caretaker of someone w/ a disability, the government wants to hear about barriers to healthcare.
This is a great opportunity to talk about masks & clean air, as well as any other concerns

Folks, I CANNOT stress enough how important it is to research your school board candidates for tomorrow.
Most of them are often listed as non-partisan. You gotta drill down and find out who's for what and then vote out the Moms for Liberty worms that embedded themselves since 2020.
It matters.
Data disaggregation in the healthcare workforce is long overdue. This is just a small step. Hope we can have better conversations

Just a reminder: the deadline to register to vote in the presidential election is likely coming up in your state.
Now is the time to register if you haven’t already done so.
Go here: vote.gov/register
Also, compilation of voter registration resources from APIAVote: apiavote.org/how-to-vote/...
😱
That’s 8-9 too many
Still, it is remarkable to be so open about targeting agencies for producing research. Mandate for Leadership says that the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration should be “broken up and downsized” because it is “one of the main drivers of the climate change alarm industry.” The “climate change industry”? See, there are some industries that Republicans want to put out of business! The risks of climate change or credible government response are not accepted in Mandate for Leadership. Indeed, the word “climate” cannot be uttered without an some language to emphasize that its all exaggerated, e.g., “climate extremism,” “radical climate policy,” “extreme climate policies,” or “climate policy fanaticism.” Climate is also presented as akin to DEI or Critical Race Theory “and other woke ideas”— artifacts of liberal brainwashing, where efforts to solve some underlying societal problem is a much greater danger than the problem itself.
Given the extreme weather we are seeing, it is worth noting that Project 2025 wants to do away with NOAA, and believes the main problem with climate change is that people are too alarmed about it.

It is incredibly hard to estimate the effects of laws on mental health, but this is a well-designed effort in an excellent journal.
The findings, that anti-trans law lead to worse mental health and suicide attempts, should be taken seriously.

Here's the most troubling story I've investigated all year. I hope it has an impact.
Lower wage health workers faced deadly conditions during covid outbreaks in 2020. Now they're struggling with PTSD & more.
Employers & the government have left them hanging.

In this month's newsletter, I write about my recent pelagic birding experience, and why it's so special to look for birds out at sea. Plus the usual photography + links. buttondown.com/edyong209/ar...

This is such a grim summary of the state of Medicaid eligibility and enrollment systems kffhealthnews.org/news/article... #healthpolicy
Yes. You can always refer folks to what happened in California since we’ve been in this for a long time now.
Reframe: Across multiple elite colleges, Black and Hispanic/Latine student enrollment fell dramatically compared to last year. In comparison, White study enrollment increased or remained unchanged. Changes in Asian American enrollment were mixed.
