We're reaching the "Who knew the Middle East could be so complicated?" stage of the war.
Only good thing I can think of is that Russia is too preoccupied to make the situation substantially worse.

Nice to see they haven't improved since the Sims 3 incident
Minor counterpoint: The reason we should feel threatened by LLMs is that when they do get things wrong they double and triple down with high confidence until they are passed new training data. Far too many people accept the output slop at face value because they don't understand the I in AI is a lie
Hopped on Twitter a week ago to see what's goin on there.
Even if you ignore the marble statue pfps, it really feels like the discover algorithm over there is very actively trying to get you mad at all times. Sometimes over the most inconsequential stuff, even. Bluesky has been surprisingly chill.
Dick Cheney's back at it, I see
Who is that clown? I've made a pretty good effort to make sure my YT algorithm rarely recommends American politics but the algorithm Gods at Google really want me to see that vid.
Finally, an AfD I can get behind
This military parade could’ve been a Signal chat
The latest satellite images show 3 major developments: a large Russian troop buildup in Bryansk Oblast, damage from recent drone strikes in Kyiv, and unusual military activities at Taiwan’s Wangan Airport.
All three have one thing in common - they were generated by AI. 🧵Thread:
Broke: War as a means to political ends
Woke: War as a hobby with intrinsic value
"I saw this crazy TikTok about strawberries..."
A lot of the same people would likely call you an alarmist now. These things happen incrementally.
1. *Batshit crazy thing happens*
2. "That's batshit"
3. "Why are you being an alarmist about a nothingburger?"
4. [The baseline for what is acceptable is readjusted]
5. Repeat
"Age verification" laws are actually "upload your ID or get your face scanned to access every website, ending anonymity and associating your identity with everything you do online" laws and if more people understood that they would not be down for this authoritarian nonsense
Fuck. For a brief moment, I thought it was a parody account.
I just hope that history books make it really clear that
a) None of this was a surprise
b) None of it was inevitable
c) It was all so stupid. It's easy to judge historical events with the lens of hindsight but this was just plain stupid in real time.
more coherent than Dugin tbh
My genius plan is to call the guy with the full transcript of my crimes a liar and see what happens
This is the exact same type of thinking we saw during Trump's last term. Trump's visible incompetence is actually part of a grand scheme that everyone else is blind to.
This reasoning is applied every time Trump does something stupid but there's never any reflection to evaluate whether it's true.
feel like one problem of Trump is that describing him objectively sounds like you're insulting him
There are so many indices measuring concepts such as "freedom" and "democracy". The common denominator tends to be that the US isn't at the top of those lists.
He could look this up or I guess he could also just make shit up. He went with the latter.
That last point is so bad. It implies that what's holding the West back from striking Russia is that we don't have the "right" to do so when in reality we don't have the political will. If Russia was to violate the agreement would we then have the will? Probably not.
I like the implication that he has been keeping count. Maybe we can get some fancy charts?
Then some 25yo likely neo-Nazi former Palantir intern who couldn't code his way out of wet paper bag goes back to Musk and tells him "Boss, this system is fucking crazy. They don't even deduplicate SSNs. We need to do a total rewrite"
And Musk immediately tweets it out. Just like he did at Twitter.
One of the greatest lifehacks someone taught me is to write an extremely honest reply to a stupid/bad faith post and then hold the backspace button. Helps with the need to vent without having to reply to an even stupider reply in the future.
It's crazy how modern liberal democracies allow the general public to affect society with such extraordinary low effort. Just show up and cast a ballot every 2ish years.
And yet, people would still rather lie to themselves and come up with some bullshit excuse for inaction.
We would be knowingly placing ourselves in a situation where gas supplies would be used as blackmail against us. Again.
This should absolutely be dismissed instantly. There is zero reason to repeat the same mistake twice.
i don’t understand how, psychologically, a person gets to a place where they interpret sign language as some kind of attack or imposition on their life. like, what the fuck is wrong with you?
Elon Musk @elonmusk Subscribe Amazing that some people still think the news is real 1:54 PM 2/14/24 From Earth. 1.9M Views X
when you see musk post stuff like this you know someone from bloomberg or the wall street journal just called him for comment on another 100% correct piece about him doing something illegal that's about to publish.
