You don't have to beat yourself up internally for months. You don't have to hate yourself for fucking up. You don't have to feel like a horrible person. No one benefits from any of that - and at worst, such an extreme reaction will make the person in question less likely to speak up around you in the future, cause even if your negative reaction is directed at yourself and not at them, it's still unpleasant for everyone involved.

I’m also just going to add that this is a classic form of making everything about yourself & can, in some cases, basically traumatize people in your life into silence bc asking you gently to stop bringing up certain topics, etc. results in a complete and total breakdown centered on your self image

Had a friend during my year abroad who was Iranian-British. Parents were divorced, father lived in Iran. She invited me to visit her there over the summer and described her family home and city. It sounded BEAUTIFUL and I wish I could have seen it. Alas, even then couldn't go because American. =/

Thank you! I also forgot to mention the Year the Japanese Beetles Devoured Her. So she's really been through it.

I really need to repot her (maybe someday will plant her in the backyard) and maybe even get her some friends. But wanted to get her through this summer first to make sure she's good.

But over the next few days there were survivors dragging fire ant corpses out of the planter. We watched them make fire ant corpse piles/graveyards on the patio. Then the survivors left and she hasn't been infested again.

I'm not apologizing. I have no tolerance for fire ants.

The fire ants situation was hilariously morbid. When we moved we put her in a sunny place in the backyard. Fire ants IMMEDIATELY moved in. Couldn't touch her without them swarming.

Found a home remedy to get rid of them (orange oil cleaner diluted in water). 100% did the trick. No harm to Frenchie.

The picture of the flowers in the vase was after that storm. I had to cut all the roses from those broken branches and prune them down...she was in full bloom at the time. But it made for a really pretty arrangement!
