This all seems persuasive to me. What is funny is on a purely *personal* level I have positive memories of the pandemic. Very lucky to avoid anything tragic, spent a ton of time outside, eating outside at restaurants, got to know all my neighbors—summer 2020 was pretty good!

A *republican* head of state. if this were Biden the markets would be down 30%
I am not super excited about the idea but I agree with OP that many opponents of it seem to be really disproportionately angry
I feel like the Mr Beast of 1987 would have been an utter laughingstock by 1993. Maybe Def Leppard was the Mr Beast of that time period. except Mr Beast never made a fucking genius album like Hysteria
Stuff used to become passé pretty quickly and it would be an embarrassing joke for a while and *maybe* reclaimed later by the nostalgia cycle or its undeniable greatness (or maybe not) but it is normal for stuff to cycle in and out of fashion and I feel like we forgot that in some ways
Also, I have a very half-baked theory that all of the talk about cancel culture etc has given people this weird idea that popular celebrities and trends should get to stay popular forever absent something unusual (eg a concerted attack from the woke) when that has never been how it works
Yes first sentence in particular is an awful lot to ask of a translator. Generally he errs on side of beauty versus faithfulness, which is my preference for translators (and lovers). Also very good with El otoño del patriarca.
I look at them as adaptations and works of art in their own right
drugs! doing drugs! i thought I was so cool. I cannot look at it now
But as they say—translations are like lovers: If they are beautiful they are seldom faithful and if they are faithful they are seldom beautiful
Rabassa translating García Márquez is tremendous imo

Was that the inaugural Solid Sound?

and yes, the Booker approach does not look like the helpful one
An actual “I told you so,” sure, but I have definitely been receptive to a gentler delivery of the same message (you were wrong and it turned out badly for you, here’s how to avoid that). And I’m a VERY defensive person. It depends on if they are being helpful or gloating
birth rate panic solved
Claude has gotten significantly *worse* for legal work with latest update. There is some stuff it is great at, but for a lot of other stuff it is wildly untrustworthy (which defeats whole purpose) and very often simply wrong.
super frustrating…
this is a wendy’s? ah. very well then.
Or a Guy Richie character, it can fit a range of tones
Yeah perhaps not ideal but better than the insanity currently in place
seems not ideal that I agree and it is 2026!
your 9 pm sounds like my 3 am. hang in there.
My uncle drove up to see Ali when he was training in rural PA once, Ali invited him for coffee and hung out for like an hour
Sanctimonious centrists who will talk about two wrongs etc., not super complex thinkers, a David Brooks column from 2013 come
to life
They hate his stupid haircut with the shaved sides and the blonde up top that is growing out
People who fucking despise City are responsible for at least 3 percentage points of that 15%
Some percentage of people are going to have an opinion based purely on ”Hasan”
OOOH franklin hall
I mean, yes, creating a fake overpopulation crisis might be good electoral strategy for the GOP. Same with rampant voter fraud.
