Before this issue, he pretty much just went to the diner and asked his friends what’s going on. They almost always had something useful.
That’s all he did as Jake and idk if that required a whole separate persona.

I think this is actually the first time MK legitimately gets intel from Jake’s “street connections” (which, according to all four of them, he has many of).

The biggest reason I’m enjoying this run is art. Panels and covers created with inspiration and imagination, emotions jumping out from pages because of cleverly used strokes of a pencil.

Around issue 23, Moon Knight finds its footing. Two returning villains in a row and two arcs that hit MK on a personal level.
To make it better, Sienkiewicz fully introduces his style in full force and now images speak just as loudly as words.

It’s in many ways like DD from the same era but it’s still finding its voice. The stories are shorter and villains are forgettable but there’s incredible art and poetic storytelling.

Random MK thoughts:
🌙 I have to admit, no one does brooding as well as Moon Knight.
🌙 So far the book is just flirting with DID, but I’m low key hoping they build up to it naturally and don’t do a hard retcon.
🌙 I don’t get the bath in the bedroom thing. Idc how rich and fancy Grant is.

Somewhere there’s Hawkeye frantically picking up his arrows and MK here leaves his moons around as calling cards.

It’s a very DD/Batman vibe and I’m loving that. The stories are dark and even with a bit of silliness they bring up some disturbing issues. This is gonna be great (Reed sucks)

I’m all caught up on the Fantastic Four.

Doom is the most interesting part of the FF lore. The permanent thorn in Richards’ side. Doom is great and no one insults Reed better. He doesn’t simply mock him, he makes it so that even when Reed wins he loses. It’s beautiful.

It feels like he genuinely enjoys it when people fall asleep during his diatribes. And Sue is the only one who cares enough to pretend to find them entertaining.
Bonus: Johnny’s centipede is adorable but it’s still a centipede that gives me strong vibes of a parasite you get after eating bad sushi.

So far Reed’s tried to invade Latveria yet again, cheered on genocide, complained about Doom and been really pushing the limits of human patience with his very annoying scientific explanations.

I talked about that recently - the fact that Reed doesn’t understand art and that affects his empathy. I also said that he’s unkind and he continues to be that way. This just proves that.
Yeah, North is trying to clean up Reed’s image really hard but the character is fighting back.

North’s run feels very retro in its structure. It’s shorter stories with the villain of the week and it’s fun but there’s not enough depth.
I see the attempt to reinvent the characters and I’ll take it for all of them except Reed. You can’t pretend he’s suddenly not morally bankrupt.

Doom is creative. He takes something Reed doesn’t understand and uses it to mess with him.
Doom has always had less villain potential than Reed: he’s smart, artistic, desires to learn, accepts deviations from his beliefs.
It’s almost ironic that Reed keeps ending up on the good side.
