Like Binding of Isaac was obviously way more popular, but it came alongside other roguelites like Rogue Legacy and Crypt of the Necrodancer--the wave had already started when it hit the field.

Derek yu arguably reinvented the roguelike with Spelunky. I know everyone likes to give Binding of Isaac credit, but Spelunky was the first one I saw that really both a) felt like it had the DNA of Nethack, Crawl, ADoM, ToME, etcetc; and b) supplies its DNA to the modern slate of roguelites.
