(actually if you can *type* them they are easy enough to google but getting the characters is the problem!)

Interesting thing is they often play 2 notes at the same time that are just slightly out of tune (flat or sharp). The way the 2 acoustic waves overlap and interact gives rise to a 'beat' you can hear as a shimmer or pulse, which creates a really unique texture to the galeman sound.

They use a different scale and tuning systems and have a very different approach to harmony. I'd love to see a proper all night live performance in Java or Bali!

To play a simple melody on one instrument was not so hard. To master it, however, yes. A good percussionist would adapt to it well though.

I do like a bit of gamelan. I did a beginner course just for fun many years ago.
