The NWC REU is one of the biggest reasons I went to graduate school. It was an incredible introduction to atmospheric science research and taught us about the *many* different career avenues in the field.

I really hope the program can continue in 2027 and beyond. Super sad to hear this news for ‘26

We learned about analog to digital converters yesterday in instrumentation and all I could think of were bit puns. It was a bit distracting. I’ll get over it bit by bit, though

Had a great time at #AMS2026. Thank you to everyone who attended my talk regarding tornado structure in TTUKa data from the LIFT experiment!

Haha, thank you!! I’m speechless. Just pure joy right now 😁

Tried to remove the battery for my 2015 ford escape and BOY was I in for a nasty surprise this evening. Setting aside a few hours tomorrow evening for this…project. Sigh.

A clock moves 2*pi radians in 12 hours -> pi/6 radians per hour

Treating 12 o’clock as my reference, 9 o’clock would be 3/2*pi radians

Applying the same logic, 3*(pi - 0.14) would be pi*(pi - 0.14)/2 radians

The difference between the two angles would be your error: approx. 0.0025 radians!

At the eye doctor right now and my vision must be horrible. I don’t remember 9 o’clock being an irrational time

Had a blast meeting up with friends and mentors :)

Thanks! I was definitely exaggerating here, just the amount of reckless drivers out there is crazy. Defensive driving FTW

It’s not driving in Lubbock if you don’t have a near death experience once a week

Here is footage of the tornadoes/dancing vortices while the TTU-Ka LIFT teams were deployed. The dust acted as a great tracer! youtu.be/a0UCVFjckMU?...

Next up, the main tornado translated through Ka1's RHI plane, resulting in this series of RHI scans depicting the tornado's core and outbound/inbound sides. This is between 3-4 km away from the radar. 2/2.

On April 25th, 2025, the TTU-Ka LIFT teams successfully intercepted a tornado near Muleshoe, TX. First up are PPI scans of the main tornado and the "dancing" vortices/subsequent smaller tornadoes captured by Ka2. 1/2. #LIFT #tornado

The saga continues. First day back from sb, the power/water goes out at 10 am and tech tells us to work remotely for the rest of the day

Also, we saw a multi vortex dust devil on our drive to Amarillo but were unable to get a picture/video 😞

We went from studying all day + night for tomorrow’s fluid dynamics exam to…abrupt spring break!

That’s super sad. I volunteered there over the summer of 2022 and it was an incredible experience for all of us volunteers. It’s a huge shame other students now can’t get that opportunity

Hearing the stories of those let go is so heartbreaking. I can’t imagine putting all that time and effort into getting your dream job, only to have it taken away for no good reason. I hope the govt realizes their error here; NOAA provides incredible public service to us 24/7/365 for only a few $/yr

Just downright stupid and infuriating. Everyone in NOAA, especially those just laid off, deserves so much better. The damage done to science today (and beyond) will persist for years to come

Every single individual in the weather enterprise should be utterly furious today.

Several confirmed terminations of probationary employees across NOAA today.

These are good, hardworking, dedicated public servants working to better our country and its people whose lives, careers, and livelihoods are being destroyed w/o cause.

Absolutely heartbroken.
This is wrong.
