Why is my local city and public library looking to pay $50/hr for an AI Artist Residency? The Calgary Public Library is offering $8,000 for an AI Artist Residency while Canadian artists face funding cuts and 16% grant acceptance…

The Calgary Public Library is paying $8,000 for an AI Artist Residency while Canadian artists earn a median income 44% below average and compete for grants at a 16% acceptance rate.

This is happening in arts around the world. I wrote about why.

You really don't want to tangle with ballet dancers, they're either bitchy queens or women who have undergone horrors you can't begin to imagine.

The ICE camps are concentration camps. They should be called concentration camps.

It is, of course, important to distinguish between concentration camps and death camps, but also, I am not sure we will know when or if we undergo the transition from concentration camps into death camps.

SEIU Member Defends Medicaid, supports #mnleg bill to tax the rich YouTube video by SEIU MN State Council

The MAGA regime wants to slash Medicaid to give tax cuts to corporations and the ultra-rich. #mnleg must act—because in MN, we take care of our families and neighbors. We won’t cut off low-income folks, seniors, or people w/ disabilities from the care they need. #HandsOffMedicaid @seiu.org

I'm watching CNBC. These anchors are so angry. They really didn't believe he'd do it. They're actually just now, 10 years into this shit, realizing he's a maniac hellbent on revenge and there's no grand plan for the markets. Better late than never but holy shit.

Excerpt from a public letter Roald Dahl wrote encouraging people to vaccinate their children.

Olivia, my eldest daughter, caught measles when she was seven years old. As the illness took its usual course I can remember reading to her often in bed and not feeling particularly alarmed about it. Then one morning, when she was well on the road to recovery, I was sitting on her bed showing her how to fashion little animals out of coloured pipe-cleaners, and when it came to her turn to make one herself, I noticed that her fingers and her mind were not working together and she couldn’t do anything.

“Are you feeling all right?” I asked her.

“I feel all sleepy,” she said.

In an hour, she was unconscious. In twelve hours she was dead.

The measles had turned into a terrible thing called measles encephalitis and there was nothing the doctors could do to save her. That was twenty-four years ago in 1962, but even now, if a child with measles happens to develop the same deadly reaction from measles as Olivia did, there would still be nothing the doctors could do to help her.

On the other hand, there is today something that parents can do to make sure that this sort of tragedy does not happen to a child of theirs. They can insist that their child is immunized against measles. I was unable to do that for Olivia in 1962 because in those days a reliable measles vaccine had not been discovered. Today a good and safe vaccine is available to every family and all you have to do is to ask your doctor to administer it.

The measles outbreak in Texas is reminding me of the public letter Roald Dahl wrote about losing his daughter to measles in 1962, just before the vaccine was publicly available.

In Trump’s Cuts to Aid and Refugees, a Clash Over Christian Values Vice President JD Vance and the Pope square off, as faith-based groups face an existential crisis.

Christian charity groups have worked with the federal government for decades to deliver lifesaving American assistance around the world. Now, the Trump administration's cuts have left faith-based humanitarian groups with gaping funding deficits, hastily shuttered programs and unfolding layoffs.

It took me a moment to realize that this picture of Tulsi Gabbard was not in fact a picture of Cruella de Vil.

The good news is, both of my Senators are receiving “higher volumes of calls.”

Keep pushing. Doing so is how they keep “political cover” for actually pushing back and holding the fuckwits accountable.

A bird's-eye view of a former Auschwitz II-Birkenau camp showing a wide dirt pathway flanked by parallel rows of barbed-wire fences. Groups of visitors walk along the path, surrounded by the remnants of brick structures and barracks, now reduced to foundations. Green grass contrasts with the somber history of the site, as the path leads toward a guard tower in the distance.

Auschwitz was at the end of a long process. It did not start from gas chambers.

This hatred was gradually developed by humans. From ideas, words, stereotypes & prejudice through legal exclusion, dehumanization & escalating violence... to systematic and industrial murder.

Auschwitz took time.
