Our inevitable future, how do we balance perceived property and use rights as sea level rises? Such important questions with which we all need to engage.
NOAA’s Climate Website May Soon Shut Down eos.org/research-and... Not unexpected, but certainly unacceptable. US citizens and officials need reliable climate information.
Thanks @lamont.columbia.edu for the mention here. I am looking forward to this event on June 30.

Some thoughts from me on the current US administration's disastrous plans for science and technology funding.. It is time for everyone to speak up and ask for the investments that we need! galenmckinley.github.io/commentary/C...

When state support for science fails | Science www.science.org/doi/10.1126/... Science strengthens society and grows economies. US citizens and lawmakers should heed the warning of this article, and note China's major STEM investments. The US should be increasing federal investment in science!
@petebuttigieg.bsky.social I respect your track record and vision. I am an ocean and climate scientist and professor at Columbia U. What should I be doing to promote the value of science to red voters? Bluesky is nice, but an echo chamber. Fox isn’t going to interview me! what steps do you suggest?
Excited to attend the @nationalacademies.org 26th Roger Revelle Lecture ft. Dr. Chris Scholin of @mbarinews.bsky.social! This lecture will explore how robotics are revolutionizing oceanography in a changing climate.

www.nytimes.com/2025/04/03/o... The only way to have a strong country for the long term is to invest in new knowledge and, most importantly, the people who discover. The US is shooting itself in the foot right now
Columbia has many low income students and the most veterans of any ivy. Columbia is not the same as a public, but it doesn’t mean we sniff and survive. Your tone is sadly divisive when what we need is to STICK TOGETHER. Divided we cannot fight back to preserve education, research, and this country.
US-trained SpaceX and Tesla employees all went to institutions supported by federal grants, many likely with federal financial aid. If they did research, that was probably on federal support. The human capacity that drives these companies is federally funded. We have to get the word out on this!
