An interesting encounter this afternoon on the way home from work, seeing a mink eating a swan carcass-presumably a bird flu victim.
Just wondering if anyone knew of any research into the wider effects of bird flu in regards to the benefits which may be experienced by invasive species such as mink?

For years, experts have warned that nature loss would become a security threat.

Now a national security assessment confirms it: biodiversity collapse risks food shortages, economic instability and global disorder.

Nature underpins our global safety. So why is UK Government failing to protect it?

Peregrine Falcon chicks at Worcester Cathedral died from ingesting poison Three Peregrine chicks that hatched on Worcester Cathedral all died within a few weeks, earlier this spring. Two of the dead chicks were retrieved and sent for post mortem and the results have now …

Most likely the result of exposure to Second Generation Anti-coagulant Rodenticide (SGARs), which are known to be causing widespread harm to UK raptors & mammals ☠️

A great ringing session on the weekend saw us catch a number of interesting birds- sparrowhawk, water rail and a small flock of moorhens being the highlights!
(Not my photos, though they are from the session)

Great to catch this snipe amongst other species ringing on a private water treatment works in south Herefordshire. Also, on the theme of well camouflaged species, this tawny was also roosting on a tree on site.

A ringing session yesterday in Worcestershire produced this little beauty (a lesser spotted woodpecker) A recapture from last year, which is quite significant given only a couple are ringed each year (recaptures are extremely unlikely).
