Sam Altman Says It'll Take Another Year Before ChatGPT Can Start a Timer An $852 billion company, ladies and gentlemen.

Putting aside Sam Altman just continuing to emit huge lies constantly, this is an amazing example of what I mean when I talk about how GenAI is replacing *extremely low energy* digital tasks with *WAY WAY HIGHER ENERGY* replacements that *do not even work*

Why TF is anyone using ChatGPT as a timer!

Every week there are news like Sam Altman saying he wants to turn AI into an utility that you will need to pay for every month like Electricity and Water.

And there was clear intent on part of phone makers to eventually charge you for the ability to remember phone numbers once you become completely dependent to it.

6 days ago 0 0 1 0

> And let's be honest, most of the time you need the knowledge of a phone number, you'll have your phone with you.

Also, the memory on your device is not particularly costly. Now imagine if this feature instead required us to burn considerable amounts of resources.

That thing where if you save phone numbers on your phone, you'll get worse at remembering phone numbers on your own.

But in the case of phone numbers, it's really not a big deal. For starters, your device does not have a chance to "misremember" a phone number. >

🚨New preprint and our results are rather concerning..

We find the "boiling frog" equivalent of AI use. Using large-scale RCTs, we provide *casual* evidence that AI assistance reduces persistence and hurts independent performance.

And these effects emerge after just 10–15 minutes of AI use!

Keep in mind that these team-tagged levels tend to be the better levels in the game because they go under a specific direction and from people who care enough about the game to join a team.

So in Mario Maker 1 and specially 2 it became common to include Hash Tags for level making teams or level making challenges in the title. This was a thing for years.

But now nintendo are mass deleting these levels and sending threatening emails to their creators.

It's really incredible how even after so many years Nintendo can somehow still think of completely novel ways to ruin Mario Maker 2 www.youtube.com/watch?v=BkJO...

I'm getting so tired of media "analysis" or "critique" that's just "omgggg this could all be over if the characters just talkeddd to each other" yeah and where would the fun be in that. Why do you want your entertainment to read like an HR powerpoint presentation on workplace boundaries

Cities are already being ravaged. So what is Iran expected to do with this threat? What more hell can the US really "reign" on them? Will Trump cancel them? Swat their streams?

This message is more directed to the US. More profit to get from the stock market.

The. Rise. Of. Cognitive. Surrender.

Study finds that people who use GenAI chatbots rely on them 80% of the time, and develop almost no capacity to recognize when a chatbot is feeding them faulty information.

So if you really do want to preserve that data, you have to make a backup. And what's a backup if not a digital copy? You are turning the scarce into something plentiful.

1 week ago 0 0 0 0

What makes physical media sort of garbage is that it tends to just suffer of data rot. People love cartridges, but many classic game cartridges are downright dying. But few things are worse than optical disks. Those fucking things get ruined after like 3 uses?

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

"Physical Media" is actually kind of garbage.

But due to it being physical, it is scarce so you do have ownership. But this gets tricky. Because you only really have ownership of the physical item. The contents themselves are still digital and thus not really scarce.

You don't need to "own" a game and I posit that most people who believe they want to own games actually mean that they want unrestricted access to copies of the game.

You don't need ownership for access and if anything the measures to enforce ownership make access considerably harder.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

All attempts to create artificial scarcity/digital ownership have taken us to pretty awful things such as DRM and NFTs.

Another thing : "Ownership" of a digital thing is a ridiculous concept. Digital stuff is endlessly infinite. In order to have ownership, you'd need artificial scarcity. And Artificial Scarcity is, for lack of a better word, cringe.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

Although this will be disagreed. I couldn't really care less about "physicall copies". Digital Copies are actually the best option for Game Preservation.

1 week ago 0 0 1 0

We had tech for this sort of thing. I mean, maybe you've heard of a game called Baldur's Gate 3.

Using gen AI for this is very misguided. It is very good at generating unexpected stuff, which is a double-edged sword. Do you really want your Goblin NPC to suddenly start advertising uber eats?
