Inevitably, I end up seeing non-local friends more often than I see some locals. Or funnily enough, I see locals at cons more often than I see them in my hometown.

This feels like a difference of expectations I see occasionally here too. An hour away is still “local”, I expect to see most of those folk at some event in the year so I don’t think about it. If I need to commit a weekend for a trip (3+ hours away), I will block out time on my calendar for it.
