Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi Applauds the Signing of the Right to Contraception Act After Years of Youngkin Vetoes RICHMOND, VA — Today, Lieutenant Governor Ghazala Hashmi released the following statement after Governor Abigail Spanberger signed the Virginia Right to Contraception Act: “For the third consecutive year, Virginia’s General Assembly passed the Right to Contraception Act. After championing this legislation during my years in the Senate and watching it vetoed by Glenn Youngkin, I am pleased to see the legislation signed and codified into law by Governor Abigail Spanberger. “As the last Southern state that has not imposed sweeping restrictions on critical medical care, Virginia has the responsibility to protect access to safe and legal reproductive health care. This legislation is supported by the majority of Virginians and affirms the Commonwealth’s commitment to protecting essential contraceptive medication and devices. Millions use contraception treatments for serious medical concerns, health reasons, and birth control. Every Virginian should be able to determine their own medical options without the interference of politicians.”
