Doug Ford buying a jet for like 30 mil while thousands of people don't have a doctor, environmental protections are disappearing and teachers are being canned... no real joke to make here when the thing is already the best satire of what weird power hungry right wing losers are like

I love so many eps, but the Minksalmons' appearances and that time Paul guest hosted with his "Grandmas" are maybe in my top 3 of things to reach for when I need a guaranteed laugh

via CTV (Feb 4, 2018): With all major parties launching independent probes into the alleged behaviour of current or past members of Parliament, some female MPs say their male counterparts are "scared" about false accusations.

"There's male colleagues that are really concerned now that they could be falsely accused," Conservative MP Marilyn Gladu said on CTV's Question Period. "They're very worried about things that used to be normal -- hugging and, you know, kissing will now be sexual harassment."

She has a funny take on that topic...

This is my MP. I'm pretty sure every household has thrown out dozens of newsletters from her office scaremongering about the libs for the wrong reasons. Meanwhile, she's posted (and said/done) the worst things + hung out with questionable people for years.

Lebanon's musicians are a model for action - they deserve support now - CDM Create Digital Music Again and again, music communities in Lebanon have embraced mutual aid and spoken out through activism and in their art. That's been true from experimental music labels to the Beirut Synthesizer Center initiative. They're getting results. It's time for the international music scene and press to do more.

There are fresh nightmares from the past 24 hours. But that should not be a sign to stop giving -- least of all when music efforts were translating into real results on the ground.

So I'm putting out this call again. What we need is more international support, including media.

Letting you pause cutscenes is the greatest and most underrated innovation in video games in the last 20 years.

I've said this before. I never thought about HOW pausing works before though.

Living where I live, I am accustomed to having the worst right wing representation (we can change this), but seeing all the worst takes from libs & cons alike because my MP left one right wing party for another is exhausting. The TEENIEST joy comes from watching her supporters implode, but it stinks

Maybe Carney should live with her as his MP for a couple years, or listen to what she says outside of his meetings with him.
Or hang out with some of the extreme religious fash types she's hung out with over the years. Still at home with many lib policies imo, but maybe he'd at least feel something

"Ah, you say you want clean air, and yet... you breathe dirty air... hmmm, most curious!"

She's my MP and the list of things she's said/done/supported over the years is gross and tiring. I'd say it's an indictment of the Libs but more just demonstrates what was already true. We can all see the voting records etc from the last couple decades.

Here is a random thing I remembered, where she was worried MeToo and allegations in parliament would... stop people from hugging and kissing? does she mean at work? at parliament? (couldn't find the episode referenced)

(don't mind me, just a little funny regarding the right wing MP in my riding crossing over to the Liberal party. I'm not a fan of either which should be clear. Both parties are more similar than either would admit, but the libs can't even pretend while allowing people like her. )

You ever have so many things to say that you don't know what to say? That's what it's been like living here with Gladu (and perhaps her predecessor) as our MP.

I live here, there's always much to say about her. Not much positive to say about Libs & their record supporting a lot of the same things her/her predecessor (Pat Davidson) did either. We've all tossed many newsletters from her office complaining about the libs though. Socials getting scrubbed?

I think the idea of April Fools pranks was funny entirely within the context of TV shows where comedy writers knew how to write funny situations, never once in real life where people just imagined it would be funny and life would magically create context for it to be as funny as they imagined.

The world is better with trans folks in it. I'm sorry it's so continually - and disappointingly - been so unkind to you. Those who perpetuate anger, hatred or violence towards you and your loved ones are now and forever my enemies.

Avi's father just passed, days after Avi won NDP leadership.

In his speech, Avi said his dad had told him, of his dreams of a better world, "not in my lifetime, maybe in yours."

Incredible Stephen Lewis lived just long enough to see Avi take that first step in refusing to say that to his own kid:

To my incredible trans pals (and those I haven't had the pleasure of meeting yet):

You deserve the world. You are seen, you matter, and your rights are worth fighting for. I will be side by side with you every step of the way.

Happy Trans Day of Visibility ❤️

I'm no star trek scholar, but It's so funny that his example of non-political / non-social issue is a violent war between civilizations and collectives with like 60 years of stories detailing their political conflicts

I guess boycotting Harry Potter feels pretty trivial to me, because I'm an adult. if someone told me I shouldn't eat Gerber's baby food, I'd be like, that is no problem. I'm way ahead of you

Sometimes you can look at a Rothko and think "this is how I feel today", and half your friends will think you're insane, and the other half will go "Yeah, totally" and think you mean something entirely different. Communal experience of art is joyous and infuriating at the same time.

April Fools, as a concept, never really lands because it is so rare that we see the platonic ideal of a “prank” instilled in us from sitcoms and cartoons and stuff. Nobody has ever watched fake pregnancy or product announcements on a tv show and went “haha that’s funny!”

I don’t have anything profound to say about it all, but there was some good energy around the federal NDP leadership race and I look forward to seeing the right wing PM and the right wing wannabe have to actually defend the horrid things they support in coming months
