a long-spurred violet flower seen from the front. its five petals are widest at their midpoint then taper to a rounded but acute tip. they are light purple, with soft parallel streaks of slightly darker purple throughout. the top two petals sweep back, while two lateral petals are held out to the side, and the bottom petal juts forward. the two lateral petals and the bottom petal have a band of dark purple around the mouth of the flower. within the mouth, the bottom petal is white but streaked with parallel dark purple veins. in the center seeming to hang from the top like a uvula, there is a thin white style wrapped in flat orange stamens. the petals are all smooth; there is no beard on this violet. behind the flower, a long nectar spur sticks out & bends to the right ar its tip. in the background there are small, hreen, heart-shaped violet leaves (blurry).

a patch of longspur violets growing among moss and grass on a steep but short creekbank. there are many green leaves, heart-shaped with little rounded teeth all along the edges. the base of many of the leaves curl inwards. there are two blooming flowers, five petals each, light purple with a dark purple "eyespot" surrounding the white throat of the flower. the flowers have a long white and light purple spur extending behind the rest of the flower.
