I think learning how to play competitive in order to make your pokemon desirabley usable is when accessibility becomes an issue. I shouldn't have to grind frontier brain battles in order to use the pokemon I want. Why is this acceptable for johto when it is not an issue any other game in the series?

Also no trainers used monkey or primate in Kanto so it getting some attention is fine

People don't remember Blue's Tyranitar because hey remember Karen's Tyranitar. By the time they reach Blue they already know what they're dealing with, and are more sufficiently prepared.

Yes it is important. It allows players to see Pokemon they might not have noticed or considered and allows them to form memories with those pokemon, and consider using them themselves. Just look at Normans slaking, Cynthia's whole team, Sabrina's Alakazam. Its important to show players what they 1/2

Why does Bugsy use Kakuna AND Metapod instead of a Ledian? When do you ever see a trainer use a Skarmory, Dunsparce, Delibird, Gligar, or Aipom? Especially before Kanto where it's a lot harder to miss out on trainers.

I'm not complaining about the choice of aces but the lack of native pokemon at all. Why does Morty have so many haunters when he could lead with a misdreavus? Why does Chuck only have 2 pokemon as the 5th gym? Why doesn't he have a Hitmontop or Heracross?

Kind of actually when no notable trainers use any new Pokemon or any trainer for that matter it makes finding and using them harder because you won't know they exist until its too late to do anything about it If you see a cool pokemon you can search for it with the Pokedex but that's not possible

and that's the core issue. Unless you challenge the battle frontier most accessible Johto pokemon end up being glorified paper weights. Even after all of HG/SS improvements to alleviate availability issues. It's just not worth the effort for so little reward.

Most johto pokemon can be good, but in their native region, they just don't get access to the tools they need to succeed until it's way too late to consider running any of them to be useful. This made worse in the originals because most johto mons had piss poor move pools before phy/special split

The thing is, most of the points I've made you actually agreed with in your bios for the johto pokemon. There are plenty of points where you don't talk highly of some johto pokemon because x Kanto pokemon is more readily available and learns better moves faster or better options came in sooner

Adding 1 more thing none of these are helped by the fact that your ingame guide for finding pokemon the pokedex cant be used to find any of the non 17pokemon stated prior as no one uses them and if they do use them they only come until postgame if you don't see a trainer have it you can't search it

I can give 1 Magnemite as a pass for Jasmine for the stated reasons in my thread about it getting anew type, but why doesn't she have a Skarmory? Or even a Foretress. They definitely fit her vibe. Why give her two magnemites and an evolution that's tied to Kanto?

also want to add on to the gym leaders not using Johto pokemon. Falkner doesn't use Hoothoot or Noctowl, opting for the Pidgey line Bugsy has a Kakuna and Metapod when Ariados or Ledian would be better picks Chuck doesn't even have a Hitmontop and only has 2 pokemon at gym 4 for some reason
