The extent to which anti-Cuomo guerrilla art penetrated the zeitgeist during and after the election has been generally under-appreciated.

Prefab Potty Hyped as Fast and Cheap Is Years Late, Will Cost NYC $3.5M The city promoted a modular restroom at Fort Washington Park as a prototype for quicker construction. Years later, the project is still mired in reviews and red tape.

I don't think any major city has invested more in public bathrooms while getting less. NYC tradition requires that we have a public bathroom announcement every two years!

Big congrats to Oonee co-founder "Manman" Mansylla on designing and engineering the city's first rest stop for delivery workers. From the city's first pedestrian plaza to street seats and secure bike parking, he's been a quiet, progressive force on NYC streets for years!

I find myself having to explain power-law distribution to people perhaps every week. A relatively small % of users/customers/stakeholders account for 80% of sales, vibes, culture etc.

This is true not only in business, but also in government (20% of ppl drive one issue) and other matters.

Hershey’s Promises to Use Only Real Chocolate After Backlash

Heavy users are precious. The 15-20% of your customers who are heavy users account for maybe 80% of your sales. You tick them off and your brand dies. (There are research designs to make sure you see the negative reactions.) www.nytimes.com/2026/04/02/b...

...which is deeply unfair and unfortunate and not in the best interests of New Yorkers.

For those who know me, we have always sought to expand the system with advertising (which would actually produce money for the city) we've proven that this model works here.

But even though this is supposedly a non-exclusive contract, the DOT has by default made everything else illegal.

One point that is commonly not understood here— @nyc-dot.bsky.social has closed off every route towards expanding secure bike parking on NYC streets outside this RFP.

🚫 Advertising supported stations
🚫 No permits for those who want to buy stations

Economic displacement is very real for us.

I will have more to share on all of these fronts in the coming days. The past three months have taught us that our situation is not unique; we've heard from dozens of local minority organizations that have experienced similar treatment and we hope to shed light on larger trend.

This conversation is really about values — namely the stated economic justice ethos of the agency/administration vs the real outcomes that often don't align:

Proving It Works — Left Behind Equity, access, experience, and the cost of sidelining what works

For a decade, we’ve worked to bring secure bike parking to life in NYC. We built and funded a real system with private capital + advertising — and have dreamed of scaling it.

But we’ve never been able to meaningfully partner with the DOT, despite our best efforts. Our full journey here:

This week, the Oonee team officially took the @nyc-dot.bsky.social to court in search of transparency around the Adams era Secure Bike Parking RFP process. We did this with great reluctance —we've spent 3 months asking questions but, have only received opacity. 🧵

Come on, @mayor.nyc.gov. Don't fuck up one of the very few posiotive things to come out of the Adams reign of terror.

“It stings because we failed the streetcar as much as the streetcar failed us. DC was simply not ready to do this… the DC Streetcar… taught us that if we want strong transit, we must care enough to actually make transit strong. We are still here, dreaming.”
