Some early vibe prototyping of a timeline concept

💯

I cannot understand why smarter people than me are not seeing this! And that there isn’t a reasonable discussion about this very concerning long-term impact.

On point 3: Seriously, if you call yourself a designer and previously have made icons, why would you do this to yourself?

1 year ago 0 0 0 0

On point 2: How will even people start out as designers and creators, if small opportunities like these are being taken away from them? How will the next generation learn practically?

To expand:

On point 1: Sure, I know you can train it on your own artwork and images, but I am talking about the 80% (or more) of use-cases how people are using gen AI right now. And with GPT-4o this will become much more prevalent. Plagiarism is built-in.

Screenshot of a tweet: "took 2 prompts

fed it in these 2 images and it kind of failed, but then prompted it with clearer instructions and it was PERFECT 🤯", with two images below: 1. the author's screenshot of a prompt to ChatGPT containing images of an App Store icon and a lotus illustration, and 2. the resulting image generated by ChatGPT.

Seeing stuff like this makes me think:

1. To make this happen you literally have to steal.
2. Inevitably this takes jobs, however you slice it.
3. If you ARE the designer and using this as a so-called "tool"... for the love of god WHY? Don't you enjoy creating things?

I think the crux of people using gen AI vs. people being critical of it: humility.

Humility by being fine not able to create “anything that I put my mind into”, “just for the sake of it”.

And if one endeavours creating something, having humility to respect the process.

And to your point of going in the wrong direction: agreed, in the next X number of years it's *still* going to be copying artists of the past. It's the inherent nature of the technology—it just cannot create anything truly new and will just churn out stuff that it's been created by someone else...

Indeed. I read a take previously somewhere that "art = intent, the process and personal expression", which even though there isn't an agreed-upon definition, this one resonates with me.

So not only are artists ripped off by corporations when building the LLMs and training the AI, but also a second time by end-users mentioning them in their prompts.

How can anyone genuinely call the output "art" or the act "creativity" is truly beyond me.

...in order to make something a little bit more "meaningful" (very heavy emphasis on the quotation marks), which even further stresses the point that without actual source art and artists to plagiarize from, it's garbage.

When you look at what people are generating with AI, it's either soulless slop, as it defaults to regurgitation of everything and anything, or, people need to put in artists/studios/art movements/artistic styles in their prompts as a reference...

My ears literally perked up and head bopped through the whole ending scene and credits. Love it when my favourite artists come together ✨
