“You have one guy who knows his rights and you lose all of them.”

It is very clear Syria is still not a safe country. It is obvious that there will still be people needing asylum. Germany, Austria, France et al freezing claims shows how countries just wait for an excuse, and will use any they can, to prevent people seeking safety, even when lives are still at risk
For the @techpolicypress.bsky.social, @justinhendrix.bsky.social and I spoke about border tech, dehumanization, and how we can fight the politics of difference that separate us from one another.

💯💯💯 I was hoping for no repercussions on existing asylum or refugee systems but of course..
.@HRW: Migrant workers in Saudi Arabia are facing widespread abuses, some of which may amount to forced labor, across employment sectors and geographic regions, including at high profile giga-projects funded by or linked to its sovereign wealth fund. www.hrw.org/news/2024/12...

Telegraph headline saying: "Guy Dampier Asylum hotels could bring Britain’s welfare state to its knees Time is running out for Labour to get a grip on the cost of housing Channel crossers"
No it couldn't. Hope that helps.
Immigration, borders and asylum actually, despite political posturing, have minimal impact on other areas because they are primarily self funded, via other migrants' extortionate visa costs for example. This is purely fearmongering and scapegoating by the Telegraph.
Essential in a country like Malaysia, facing increasing impex pressures, labour mkt stressors, and race to the bottom tactics by suppliers and businesses.

Have not seen much on here on Sudan, so I'm amplifying this horrific report that shows the number who are killed is higher than previously estimated.
Adding here other writing to read to understand this war that has displaced over 11 million people; the highest displacement crisis globally. 🧵
Anyways follow @bsonblast.bsky.social for news and updates on Sudan!
I can't forget a single face I met on the trip. I doubt whether the places in these pics still exist. Not once did I feel like an outsider. The Sudanese are extremely warm, community-minded and optimistic (of their futures at the time). #Sudan and her people deserve better!
Soon after we returned however, the govt fell to a military coup d'etat headed by Burhan. And when the RSF began attacking civilians and citizens fled, I kept checking up on colleagues and friends I met on my trip there to know if they were safe. Some replied and moved to Port Sudan, others MIA.
A Unforgettable Sudanese Summer.
I spent 10 days in Khartoum for a research project in early 2021. We spoke to several stakeholders incl those of Hamdok transitional govt on labour migration concerns. The youth had so much hope and I was emotionally bound to Sudan since then.
In new videos, Vice editor-in-chief Shane Smith treats immigrants as a problem and apologizes to Elon Musk for past coverage.
New story by @asawinstanley.com for @intifada.bsky.social : The New York Times has killed an investigation by one of its own reporters into Israeli mob violence in Amsterdam earlier this month!
Sharing it here since I couldn't find the post on the Sky. electronicintifada.net/blogs/asa-wi...
