This is not the explanation Starmer seems to think it is. It sounds more like a confession trying to get out.

This is what "Don't let the perfect be the enemy of the good" thinking gets you: a leader fundamentally incapable of acting in a way suited for the times, and scrambling to worsen fossil fuel reliance rather than decouple society from it
Reactionary centrism always ends up as a pro-fossil ideology
"Zack Polanski, leader of the Green party, said: “There’s nothing real about the Reform party. Their supposed policies to tackle cost of living are fake, they spin stories that are fake and now we know even their campaigners are fake.”

Boy you had me excited there for a second with that first sentence, solely on the grounds that nothing seems impossible in the US these days!
VERY BIG NEWS out of France a week ago:
"French Prime Minister Sébastien Lecornu announced on Friday, April 10, a ban on installing gas heating systems "by year's end" in new buildings, including multi-unit housing, to curb France's dependence on fossil fuels."

More than 40% of ships globally transport fossil fuels. Nearly all of them run on fossil fuels too.
GB News headline: GP who asked Muslim woman to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her' is struck off.
Was this GP struck off just because he asked a Muslim woman to remove her veil?
How likely does that sound? 🤷♀️
Did he actually ask her to remove her veil 'because he was struggling to understand her?'
Let's take a look at what really happened based on the tribunal reports...

Google to tap into gas plant for AI datacenter in sharp turn from climate goals Texas power plant would emit 4.5m tons of carbon dioxide per year, more than that of the entire city of San Francisco
"Asked by Axios last week at an energy conference in Houston about how natural gas jives with the company’s clean energy goals and overall strategy, Google’s head of advanced energy, Michael Terrell, said: “We don’t have anything to say on that.”"

A month on and the Prime Minister is fighting for his survival on a technicality.
But the serious moral failure of appointing Mandelson - despite all that was known back then - was already a resigning issue.
Given their previous stances, surely "gaslighting" would be the mot juste ?
If the US can spend $300m to rescue a single airforce pilot, why is it acceptable that children go hungry and people struggle to stay housed there? What a monstrous failure of perspective! www.bbc.com/news/article...
The cucking of JD Vance escalates to levels scientists had previously deemed imposible.
remember, the Star gave us the lettuce!
And these are the people not radical enough to join Restore Britain!
When I shifted from journalist to academic, I went from taking notes from interviews to recording interviews and listening closely back to them to transcribe them and I discovered in doing so how much richer the insights are you get that way. AI transcription is v helpful but we'll lose stuff
Not content with offending 2 billion Muslims worldwide with his "Praise be to Allah" comment, Trump heightens things by insulting the leader of 1.5 billion Catholics. With this kind of speedrunning he can probably piss off all of the world's religious people in a matter of weeks, even Buddhists.
JD Vance is on a historic roll:
He campaigns for AfD in Germany - they lose.
Invited the Pope to come to US for Trump’s big event - Pope refuses.
Leads peace negotiations with Iran - fails miserably.
Campaigns in Hungary for Orbán - who gets smoked.
I've lived for years in a province where an overwhelming majority:
- speak the same language
- share a history and culture
- have similar values
- Practice one of the Christian religions (or none)
Monoculturalism... can be a little dull and uninspiring!
Was it only four days ago The Telegraph comment pages were gazing into their tea leaves ?
His successor as PM used to be part of his nasty party before switching sides... but on the whole I am inclined to say 🥳
"To put it bluntly, an X post today receives less than 3% of the views a single tweet delivered seven years ago."
If you think it is necessary to be on Twitter to communicate your fact-based worldview, the reality is that worldview is being smothered.
This may be a fundamentally new kind of sin blending blasphemy, idolatry, divination, and simony, among others. Those who are not horrified at this may be entirely lacking in authentic religious awareness and feeling.
