Was a bit delayed in sharing but our April issue is here with jelly and creepypasta and architecture and so much more! @splitlipthemag.bsky.social
ICYMI: We loved (and cringed in sympathy) at Carol M. Quinn's story about the trials and tribulations of contingent faculty during the pandemic. Check it out! @splitlipthemag.bsky.social
Love this.
"The ChatBot doesn’t have the moral fiber optic cables to make a stand, because it’s an algorithm, its workings a black box, its body a string of numbers. The ChatBot can’t even eat fiber"
Such a brilliantly-crafted piece, stranding together different elements through powerful anaphora repetition.
'The ChatBot tells me I shouldn’t kill myself today.' Congratulations to @annablabs.bsky.social whose story, Blackboxing' is the winner of the @fracturedlit.bsky.social #flashfiction #competition ✨

"he ChatBot tells me a star is a giant ball of hot gas, but Star would tell me, You’re a giant ball of hot gas, bitch. The ChatBot informs me bitch is a pejorative." Brilliant, unforgettable @annablabs.bsky.social
I read the NYT piece, and I am holding onto the words of a woman who fended off inappropriate advances from a 60-year-old Cesar Chavez at the age of 19. “It makes you rethink in history all those heroes,” Esmeralda Lopez said. “The movement — that’s the hero.”
Dolores Huerta's statement on Cesar Chavez: “I am nearly 96 years old, and for the last 60 years have kept a secret because I believed that exposing the truth would hurt the farmworker movement I have spent my entire life fighting for... I can no longer stay silent and must share my own experiences"
Thank you, @splitlipthemag.bsky.social and @fracturedlit.bsky.social!
Interrupting my stream of Oscar posts to shout our bloomingly beautiful March issue. Please check it out! @splitlipthemag.bsky.social
Y'all, social media taught me that Michael B. Jordan's dad is Michael A. Jordan. Obviously, his future kid's gotta be Michael C. Jordan.
I'm also going to pretend No Other Choice was nominated for something.
I'm just going to pretend Delroy or Benicio won lol.
The only win I'm eh about is Sean Penn's. I freely admit it's because I don't like him as a person, and I'm sick of him winning Oscars. *But* it was a good villain performance so I guess it could be worse.
I am generally content with the Oscars. Especially my girl Autumn.
ICYMI: We love Brett Hymel Jr.'s painfully earnest (and wildly hilarious) take on metafiction, grief, and friendship. Read it before it hits the archive! @splitlipthemag.bsky.social
I read this yesterday and again this morning and I can’t stop thinking about it.
"When I ask the ChatBot to tell Star to stay, please stay, the ChatBot can tell me the etymology of stay, can ask me if I want the lyrics to the Burt Bacharach song, but can never, ever stop anyone from walking out the door."
Read Anna's superb winning flash; start your day a lil disembodied.
This is TOO damn good ⚡⚡
Hello, hello! My prize-winning flash in which I reflect upon AI dropped a few days ago, amidst AWP happenings. Thanks to @fracturedlit.bsky.social and Gwen Kirby for plucking this out! CW: suicide, disordered eating fracturedlit.com/blackboxing/
