Among the things I collect are scholarly biographies of early medieval English kings, written by friends of mine (most recent acquisition on the right). @proflroach.bsky.social @davidwoodman45.bsky.social @rorynaismith.bsky.social

Yep. In fact, the real failing of students was when we stopped requiring them to regularly search a library catalogue for their reading and instead produced lists with hyperlinks that students simply had to click. As soon as they have to go off list, they’re lost.

Ha, I was recently thinking about this in relation to epic metal bands: Writhen Hilt, Dolmen Gate, Stygian Path, Idmon’s Aegis… Similarly. if your band name is Grendel's Sÿster and your album is called Katabasis into the Abaton, chances are I’m going to like your music.

This is absolutely fucking outrageous. You can’t just overthrow and kidnap the leaders of other countries and then effectively conquer them and suspend their own democratic systems. Trump is a despicable fascist who should be impeached immediately.

He obviously has already been Richelieu in The Musketeers, and I’ll never forgive Dr Who for stealing him away and thus ruining the show.

As somebody who's been through this, I kind of wish passing the test would be a requirement for British people to be allowed to vote as well.

A picture of the acknowledgements page of the book mentioned in the tweet, with a highlighted passage: 'The staff of the SSEES Library and the German Historical Institute in London deserve great credit for running the two institutions that did most to facilitate the extensive research that this book required and whose rich shelves were a source of endless curiosity and inspiration.'

Nice to open a book that I bought out of personal interest and find this. This is why my colleagues and I do what we do. It makes me so happy to read this. (From 'Central Europe: the Death of Civilization and the Life of an Idea' by @ljukic.bsky.social) @ghilondon.bsky.social

It is obscene and shameful to see Newnham Cambridge excluding trans women from fellowships. Nearly all the trans women I know in academia are precarious, and trans women are criminally underrepresented in every field relevant to the talent they have. This is pure nastiness (and that's the point)

Dear colleagues and friends,

A quarter of a century after its last major refurbishment, the GHIL is embarking on a new project to renovate and modernise its building. In a few weeks the builders will move in to make the public facing rooms of the Institute ready for the coming decades. 🧱🔨

Currently on pre-order at my local independent bookshop:

Katabasis by R.F. Kuang
The Power and the Glory: A New History of the World Cup by Jonathan Wilson
The First King of England: Æthelstan and the Birth of a Kingdom by David Woodman

This reflects my interests pretty well.
