i liked the original comment bc the military becoming partisan seemed obvious enough that it didn't need pointing out, and i hadn't thought that the public might notice and care

wtf this is the dumbest take ever. lots of colleges in 'the west' have different houses that sometimes have friendly competitions, or their own culture

I don't disagree with all of these, but if 4 is true, why did the 10x engineer let the bug ship? I also personally hate the engineers who want to introduce new things. Christ, I just want something that works that will make money. Save the experimentation for small, greenfield projects.

Ugh I got mad at a friend recently for saying I was strong for the same reason you're mad

Using AIPAC as an example seems narrow. All the money that goes into the right wing media ecosystem is clearly doing something

there was a good article in the nyt recently about how art curators used their expertise to go through old church records, to find out who had jewish ancestry, in nazi germany. so much for humanism

does anyone ever challenge people like this who claim they support farmworkers, by saying, "well the farmworkers want the thing you're opposing"?

the left is also more fun for the people who would be targeted by conservative oppression!

if you really think america's falling into fascism, today is the easiest it will ever be to fight it. won't get easier later.

i think there's some truth to what you say, but there's plenty of depravity amongst the broader public--think of the number of men who raped gisele pelicot!

absolutely horrifying how ppl pinning it on epstein's wealth forgot about gisele pelicot's assailants. so much for even the 'good' men

Fair point, voice recognition is probably less power consuming than the battlefield

4 months ago 0 0 1 0

Don't know if that's true. Once an air model is trained, it's possible to compress it so it'll run on less powerful devices. Eg voice recognition models need to build on a very powerful set of machines, but can then work on a phone

very funny republicans care more about confederate statues than bulldozing part of the White House

isn’t the fear of provoking Russia into a nuclear escalation legit though?

We had a class on local plant names in grade school when I was a kid in california. i like foraging for wild foods and am unusually plant literate, but most of the outdoorsy people I know could name a few tree species

Davis knows and he’s doing it for clout? Could be

7 months ago 0 0 0 0

Daryl Davis in fact paid a portion of Preston’s bail. I think he’s being duped and libs eat his story up because he’s telling them what they want to hear—that major problems can all be resolved with enough empathy and kindness and communication

Daryl David befriended richard Preston and Preston still went to Charlottesville to shoot at people, so whatever he’s doing isn’t actually working

I think a lot of people are and sky was posting bait

Most of the ppl sky is talking about would be unlikely to support throwing the Pirate Bay founders into federal prison

If you narrowly restrict the issue to copyright infringement sure but it also matters what you’re doing with the violation. There’s also the question of whether you’re personally profiting from it

There’s a huge difference between wanting to release research that was paid for by the public to the public and scraping data for personal profit. And ChatGPT is already dispensing bad medical advice that could kill people. Very very big differences.
