if there is a path to either national nonpartisan redistricting or proportional representation, it is going to go through one party or another. but the first step toward it actually happening is for that party to win power, and you go to war with the system you have, not the one you want.

one of the ways the mid to late 20th century political world has distorted the historical memories of even sophisticated observers is in the idea that you can achieve major transformations of american political life through something like bipartisan consensus
Resident Evil Requiem is great fun, and also hilariously gendered.
Girl zombies is when you're whimpering and stuttering but still have time to be maternal to an innocent blind child.
Boy zombies is when pew pew bang bang ka-BLOOSH "sorry, I'm not on the menu!"
Once again I am begging my fellow legal academics to remember that judges are the objects of our study, not our bosses, priests, or revered elders.
investigate everyone involved in DOGE
No one can become a billionaire without becoming weird & anti-social. We should just accept that & pass policies that prevent anyone from accumulating that much money.
Infowars/Onion combo logo in rainbow saying “I support the onion’s hostile media takeover.”
It’s finally happened. After 18 months. Finally, a media merger you can root for.
With the help of the Sandy Hook families, The Onion has reached a long-awaited deal to take over InfoWars.
We've enlisted the help of @timheidecker.bsky.social, who will be InfoWars' Creative Director.
Please stand by for more.
This news comes almost eight years to the day after the Sandy Hook families first filed their defamation lawsuit against Infowars. If the situation is as I believe it to be, the deal still has to be approved by a judge. More soon -
"holy shit! you were censored for believing in God?"
LOL no, not that
"for thinking it's appropriate to observe religious holidays in the workplace?"
haha no not that
"Which religious beliefs, exactly?"
oh, you know the ones
He's out of step with REAL Democrats
literally every day my wife or I go outside with our daughter people go out of their way to be friendly, offer aid or a kind word, no matter where we've traveled. it's nice to remember that hostility as default mode of interaction is not destiny, much as it benefits some to pretend it is
It's just crazy to see a genuine star in the Democratic Party talking about the *working class*. Not *working families* not *the middle class* not *ordinary Americans*.
The working class. Words two consecutive generations of Democrats were bullied into never speaking aloud.
However low your opinion of the Roberts Court, it should be lower.
Mike Nellis @MikeNellis "I'M NO LONGER CATHOLIC!" Hannity ABANDONS HIS FAITH for Trump NELLIS X.com • +*+
Amazing that in the national divorce the libs are getting the NFL, butter and cooking oil, being attracted to adult women, standup comedy, Bud Light, and now also Catholicism
Most striking to me about these memos is the radically different assessment of the harm imposed by the president not being able to pursue his initiatives. Over the last 15 mos., that harm has in numerous cases been treated as almost per se serious and irreparable. Here, it gets no analysis at all.
It is unconstitutional for a Democratic POTUS to accomplish something, especially if it would cost FedSoc donors money.
That's what the Major Questions Doctrine is. The rest is just theater.
Just as Madison intended, it is unconstitutional...
1) For FedSoc donors to have to spend a lot of money, and...
2) For a Democratic President to accomplish something
The Supreme Court?! Doing politics?!
Screenshotted excerpt from linked article reading as follows: "In public, Chief Justice John G. Roberts Jr. has cultivated a reputation for care and caution. The papers reveal a different side of him. At a critical moment for the country and the court, the papers show, he acted as a bulldozer in pushing to stop Mr. Obama’s plan to address the global climate crisis. When colleagues warned the chief justice that he was proposing an unprecedented move, he was dismissive. “I recognize that the posture of this stay request is not typical,” he wrote. But he argued that the Obama plan, which aimed to regulate coal-fired plants, was “the most expensive regulation ever imposed on the power sector,” and too big, costly and consequential for the court not to act immediately."
OOP
New York Times got receipts on John Roberts being like, 'I know this isn't how anything works, but a Democratic president is about to implement a policy!!'

Announcing my latest law review article, Law-Policy Tethering, will be published in Iowa Law Review. The Supreme Court is transforming the law-policy relationship, with big implications for health, environment, labor, and voting. Judicial review is too strict & too deferential. (1/2)
The root of conspiracism is refusal to accept a painful, mundane truth.
It’s hard to accept that you’ve spent 10 years in thrall to a con man and tremendously harmed others in the process. Wanting an exculpatory, heroic narrative for one’s own frailty is a desire Trump exploited in the first place.
seriously hope when dems get back in power they go after every single fuck involved with DOGE
To add nuance, Dernoncourt et al. (2024) show that taxing the 1% will not make a meaningful difference in closing the racial wealth gap. THAT SAID, there is evidence that the tax revenue could help improve many other parts of society.
i can't help but think about 10 or 11 years ago when conservatives insisted that obama was uniquely anti-catholic because his administration thought that catholic-led orgs could just fill out a form if they didn't want to cover contraceptives in their health plans for employees.
a powerful reminder of the grotesqueness of man's sinful nature, thank u sonic
you ever just feel overwhelmed by crushing sadness? like your heart might implode? no? haha me neither
"The rise of extreme wealth is one of the clearest signs of this imbalance. In 1987, billionaires held wealth equal to 3% of global GDP. Today this tiny elite, just 0.0001% of the world population, owns the equivalent of *16%* of world GDP in wealth."
