Thank you so much Rhoq, always! ;_;
Yeah! I mean, it's not really a "rough" tutorial that scares me, it's the "methodical" approach to bad, wrong or inconsistent teaching / tutorials that are hurtful to people, made just to get the numbers going! It's definitely the "grifting" feeling that makes me sad
I didn't know about these "tutorial reviewers". The idea itself gives me the chills, probably evern more so than bad tutorials / engagement farms 🥶
An aerial view of Ecruteak Town at night, from Pokemon Gold and Silver, reimagined. The northern sky is full of stars and a waning crescent moon In the far north, the lights of a mysterious city bedazzle the valley. Lugia can be seen flying to the West. The city centre is lively and brightly decorated and illuminated by lanterns and strings of lights. A huge torii gate marks the access of the city to the south, while to the west, connecting to Route 38, is a small gatehouse. To the East the Clock Tower stands tall, with bright lights dotting the forest below and leading to Route 42. To the North-west, the iconic Burned Tower is encased in the dark bamboo glade, where many lights and will-o-the-wisps create a circle of warm, eerire light around the three legendary beasts guarding the monument. Zubat, Golbat and Crobat can be seen flying around. To the east, atop the central shrine zen garden backyard, a shiny Ninetales observes silently the city. Trainer Kris is exploring the verdant Bell Path, just beyond the wooden arched bridge. Below the bridge, a river flows into a waterfall, leading to the great pond at the temple's base. Here many poliwags are playing in the water, while Politoed sings on the top of a rock. At the end of Bell Path stands the Bell Tower, with its many stories; the trusted monk still guarding its access. An eerie light envelopes the South-western shrine, located by an old graveyard immersed in wisteria flowers. This also serves as the city gym, where Morty, the gym leader, can be found by the entrance with his ace, Gengar. The Theatre is opened tonight: a bright warmth light welcomes the visitors by the street: a kimono girl dance is to be expected. A brightly illuminated pokemon center can be found just below, with a traditional wooden sign and a huge pokeball on the roof. The pokemon market, to the east of the Theatre, has a counter opened to the street, where the old lady sells medicines and souvenirs.
A topdown pixel art remake of Ruin Valley, from Pokemon FireRed and LeafGreen. Many ancient structures can be seen emerging from the steep cliffsides and lush tropical vegetation: temples, tall palaces and mysterious pathways and towers. A moltitude of pokemon and trainers can be seen around. To the east, the ocean with tall waves and a jagged coastline. Water and fossil pokemon live there. At the center of the valley, the legendary pokemon trainer Red is entering the Dotted Hole ruins. Peculiar rock formation resembling regi pokemon are scattered throughout the environment.
A top-down view of a cathedral-like structure, with many columns. At the very center, a giant baldachin, firmly standing on twisted columns. The altarpiece is mounted in a rich baroque frame, surmounted by stained glass rose window. A tall, bat-headed vampire is guarding the altar, with bats flying around. A richly adorned pipe organ can be seen to the eastern gallery. Along the transept in front of the absis, two enclosed naves host a Pietà statue and a reliquiary. Many huge chandeliers hang above the central nave, and lots of candles are scattered around the cathedral. A few zombies and skeletons are marching towards the entrance, where a group of adventurers is preparing for battle, being surrounded. To the side of the absis altar, downward staircases lead to the crypt. A huge skeletal dragon guards a closed gate. Many huge chandeliers hang above the central nave, and lots of candles are scattered around the cathedral. Below the Cahedral, an underground Ossuary crypt, with walls made out of bones and skulls. An eerie light permeates the various locales, featuring grates, numerous walls of wax, monumental coffins and pillars. A Lich warlock is channeling dark magic by a sarcophagus. The Tower above houses a giant bell. A faraway city can be seen from the terrace, as a Griffin guards the bell beam. A secret room with four chandeliers features many tombs. There, a lady-like demon with bat wings floats above a marble coffin.
A top down pixel art view showing the current progress in creating a seaside town area. The location features a few houses, some with an accessible roof, a Laboratory with a greenhouse structure attached and a tree house. To the north-east there are rocky cliffs and a cave that leads up into the promontory. In the southeast, just below the rocks, a sandy beach leading to a bay area. A few npcs are starting to populate the location, exploring the surroundings and having a chat. To the south-west, an open-air train station, with two railway platforms and two modern looking canopys. To the east along the railroad, many light poles can be seen. To the south-east a single house with a green car is located in the middle of a plateau overseeing the Bay area. A few antenna towers can be seen around the place, as well as electric poles dotting the hill area to the south.

Despite everything, it's still me, Alessandro, an italian pixel artist who left the Fine Arts and Movie Art Department to go crazy about little squares.
I like big top-down maps and limited palettes, but I kind of do a little bit of everything-pixels nowadays!
And, as always, thank you so much Elle! ;_;
But it took an UNGODLY amount of time to make, yet I still love/hate it so much 👀✨️

I like big top-down maps and limited palettes, but I kind of do a little bit of everything-pixels nowadays!
everyone develops their own path according to taste, resources and need.
I think the pixel art community itself already provides so much good guidance and accessibility! The problem is how far and wide social medias can go with wrong stuff outside the community of peers. Let's all do our best!
100%
Of course we all have different ideas, styles and solutions, but after experiencing moviemaking and Fine Arts I cannot stress enough how *good and welcoming* the pixel art community generally feels. Exercises and basic representation techniques are really important when beginning, then +
Hey #PortfolioDay !
I'm Taks, I'm a pixel artist who enjoys making art for games. I like making icons, tiles, and illustrations. Just finished another project and currently looking for long-term work!

The problem even in sharing and offering tested resources is that my range of action is slow and limited, so we can do little for the spreading of fast misinformation on a larger, social media scale. It's just the bad faith of those, preying on beginners that breaks my heart.
Yep! I usually give my students a list of sites, pixeljoint, spriters resource and Lospec among those, then I encourage the use of textbooks like Pixel Logic while I guide them step by step on the workshop. There's also incredible teachers like cyangmou who provide invaluable material. +
I think I lost the plot on this. It has just become somewhat of a convoluted, foggy rant. I don't want to involve myself in any kind of feud.
Idk. What should we, as a pixel art community do? The clear answer is: keep on making good, or very honest tutorials or direct people to good sources.
Idk.
During my university years I've seen plenty of shady practices, even amidst the most celebrated faculties, cultural associations and events. I have grown a profound, fiery distaste and distrust for those; especially in this era of relentless A_I grifting we should be extra honest and responsible. +
I am sure that there's an "algorithm" or "content/engagement farming" aspect behind them, with the most aggravating part being the fact that presenting something as a free tutorial "shields" the author from criticism or a healthy dose of debate, while ultimately profiting them and not the student. +
As many of you know I am always eager to receive/ask for feedback, and when asked I love to encourage and give my own.
I scrutinize my own output a lot and I am even harsher on whatever I bring to the students because I know there's a whole lot of responsibility on that. +
What I am specifically referring to is the incredible amount of confusing, technically incoherent and ultimately hurtful ones. There are entire accounts made with those, often with freebooting, badly made edits and more.
I never noticed them, but I happend to as I started teaching this year. +
I am not referring to a quality policy thing: plenty of unpolished tutorials are made in good faith. These often bring good ideas and are an encouraging; I apreciate those a lot; each aspiring (pixel) artist will begin there and make their own research, knowing a wider picture awaits them. +
I am a bit puzzled about a kind of phenomenon I stumbled into on other socials (IG and tiktok, before leaving the latter). I don't know how to correctly define it, it's something akin a "tutorial bubble".
You might have seen some of those being incomplete, misleading or just completely wrong. +
Hi everyone!
I've organized a jam for artists to celebrate 30 years of Tamagotchi!
The goal is to create lots of little digital monsters inspired by the famous virtual pet.
If you like the idea, you can find all the info here 👇

I have to say that I am experiencing somewhat of a transformative time of my life (not in a negative way, but certainly not an easy thing) so I'm taking every possible opportunity to do different things and leave the "classic style" behind a bit!
NES videogame scene of a castle made of brown-grey stone blocks, with cast shadows, a brick texture and bright highlights, seen from a rotated top-down angle, over a background of distant trees. It features dark green grass tiles, bright blue water pools, and yellow-brown wooden crates.
NES-compliant castle scene, made on the NAW editor by @nesrocks.bsky.social to take advantage of the 8x8 atributes supported by the amazing BB-Studio (a NES target game maker, fork of GB-studio) by @michel-iwaniec.bsky.social
Also, side note: I am REALLY glad to find you again, here on bsky! And pinky promise I'll do some philological CRT stuff eventually! :'P
The color correction doesn't change the scanline correction you rightfully mentioned (I did try a few scales / calibrations and some were more similar to yours!) but I ultimately went for a "somewhat crt rendition" without compromising the pixel nature / dpi on paper too much if that makes sense!
Thank you Sven! Actually there's somewhat of an excuse for the output for the color correction I applied: these screens I posted are made to be printed in an anthology collab with other italian artists; so I actually had to work with CMYK eventually and added a bit of contrast throughout!
