There is a recording of the late Tony Harrison (at the start of this recent edition of The Verb) reading 'Them and Uz' and flipping back and forth between the different accents - which would make a great discussion starter: www.bbc.co.uk/programmes/m...
[8 days left to listen]
Accent bias logo. Four speech bubbles in four different coloured squares.

Hehe that was supposed to be 'potential', but maybe potent works...
Josh Combs introducing his talk on putting it into practice in the classroom.
To close out the day we have @qwep210.bsky.social reflecting on how to put these things into practice in the classroom (especially with reference to the AQA specification)...
Oops I was too engrossed in the talks and forgot to post, but there were fabulous talks after lunch by @salinacuddy.bsky.social and Paul Kerswill....
Lauren is standing at the front of the room under a large screen showing a slide with a task to reflect on how different reporting verbs can change the interpretation of reported speech
#YorkCPD2025 and now Lauren Harrington on issues in potent use of automatic speech recognition software to transcribe police interviews...
Catherine Laing giving the first talk - we can see Catherine beside a large screen with the talk slides on it, and some listening teachers in the foreground.
We're off - first up is @cathelaing.bsky.social on size sound symbolism (or the lack of it?) in infant directed speech! #YorkCPD2025
