Spent my day teaching 5th and 6th graders doing a refresher training on community circles. When we asked them about what was working for them, I was so inspired by their answers. They had amazing ideas how to teach their younger peers. I think a few would make great teachers!

Word! Thank you tap saying that. Gives me pause that maybe others in my PDs are where you were!
Many kids who struggle with behavior issues are showing us symptoms of suffering from the impacts of trauma/adversity. Punishment tries to teach through suffering. More suffering won't help these students, and it is not easy to identify which are and which are not those kids.
No one is asking teachers to be mental health professionals. One doesn't need to be a therapist to create a therapeutic environment. We need adults in a kid's life to be able to recognize, respond, and refer when the impacts of trauma show up as behavior so it doesn't escalate.
Trump's language is so "us vs them" and in the most divisive ways. I am not thinking this guy can unite us as a country. Watching him divide us up even further than we were is scary.
Not sure who is on Bluesky yet.
That sounds great. Thank you.
I was really excited to read my first book review from Amazon Australia. Thank you, Theresa.
This is a really powerful article. Must read. Spread this far and wide friends!
This podcast was done back in early November when Joe Brummer was actually in Australia and at home with me after the wonderful Trauma Aware Schools Conference in Brisbane.

The most personal and honest podcast episode I have ever done. Thanks to Jase Williams for having me on the show.

I'd be interested in seeing a single #actuallyautistic advocate raise their hand at being "outraged" at the elimination of ABA funding. Benji here was in "more than 33 hours a week in the specialized therapy...for 6 years...starting at 3". Holy hell.

Our emotional brains and our logical brains are not separate. They are not at war with each other. Our logical brain doesn't need to suppress our emotional brain. That just isn't how it works. Your whole brain works as one big system and is rarely in competition.
Marg Thorsborne and I are rarely in the same space as we live on separate continents. That makes this podcast a little more special. open.spotify.com/episode/6CWl...
