The 2025 Institute of Physics Kelvin Gold Medal, in a presentation box, in my hand.

Collected this with @nustem.bsky.social colleagues last night, at the @iop.org awards dinner. Woop Woop! Very proud to add my name to the list of recipients, several of whom I worked with back in my formative days or have known since. Inspirations all.

A backstreet scene in Whitley Bay, looking down an alleyway through an arch to blue sea. A brightly-sunlit lifebelt gleams orange, framed by the arch. The top corner of frame sees a slash of crisp blue sky.

Oh, you have to be kidding me. Moving house. Shifted a table that’s not been moved in 7 years, and this little git is revealed.

If you know, you know.

A screenshot of Google AI about Uranus with a picture of Neptune instead of Uranus

Sure, Google's data centers consume tens of billions of litres of water yearly and emit more carbon dioxide than many nations, but on the other hand, you can look up Uranus and AI will show you a picture of Neptune.

Never in the history of humanity, have we reached such speeds in making mistakes

Science thrives on integrity, but silence in the face of misconduct erodes that foundation. @scurry.bsky.social’s open letter calls on the #RoyalSociety to uphold its values, something every scientist should stand behind. Accountability matters. #StandForScience #ScienceMatters
