The reason Tesla's Robotaxis are behind is he was inflexible on inputs. To keep costs down he didn't adopt Lidar. It's just hubris.
ChatGPT produced this nice little chart.

The hard thing about being a homeschooling dad is I'm basically Temu Mommy. Not really what they want, but a close enough facsimile to chew on and throw away.

@profgalloway.com In the podcast from yesterday you said something about getting rid of Social Security. This is a terrible idea, honestly. The standard understanding of it as a retirement plan doesn't begin to cover all the problems it tries to address in one big pile.

Super Mario Brothers is having its 40th anniversary. Just in case you're wondering how old some of us feel.

After many years of working in technology, I have finally come up with a billion dollar idea:
Legos that don't hurt when fathers step on them.

Does anyone else think it would be hilarious for some fat Democratic donor to throw $10M down, buy a gold card for the guy in an El Salvador prison, and send him on the talk show circuit?

It's dated. Orwell's style is by no means modern; the thing to remember about 1984 is that it was a shocking look at the possibilities of technology at the time. There are some scenes that will stick with you in there, but.... His prose style isn't flashy by any measure.

Whare are none of the Republicans asking what Eisenhower would do?

@profgalloway.com So, I listened to Pivot today, and I believe with all the 'urgent' stuff about Musk people haven't seen one of the end-goals. Replacing all these federal employees with AI is going to be an enormous set of contracts. Given how all the other services are being replaced.... GROK.

Grabbing all the contracts for replacing hundreds of thousands of federal employees with Grok, and vendor lock-in thereafter?

@karaswisher.bsky.social After listening to your podcast today, I was surprised you hadn't considered something about Elon's probable plan for DOGE / Grok: the AI replacement for all these government workers will be a huge contract. It would be the biggest instance of vendor lock-in in history.

Rookie numbers, he's gonna beat that by a mile.

My takeaway from this was that the Democrats lost because they've spent almost zero effort on pushing economic equality (and its core drivers) for twenty years. Wealth grants too much power, to the point where my father and I agree on one sociopolitical fact: greed is the only virtue left in the US.

@karaswisher.bsky.social "I think democracies work pretty fuckin' well, but go ahead."
This made my day. Thank you.

The sad thing about the Trump administration is I'm learning about various governmental organizations I wish I'd tried to get involved with when I was younger, but only while they're being destroyed. Today's culturally amazing artifact being razed to the ground?

@aoc.bsky.social A thought just occurred to me. Why aren't the Democrats framing the Tariffs as a sales tax on foreign goods? That's really what they are. Trump keeps talking about them like they're amazing, but throw the word, "TAX" in there and it's a tougher pill, especially given red ideals.

@thedailyshow.com Hey, could you do everyone a favor and hunt down some former USAID employees and interview them about distributing mosquito nets or food? The one-sided "They just throw away money" argument doesn't cover the estimated 2 million lives they save a year.
