Lessons from HMS Victory for today’s Sailors:
This 25-minute animation of HMS Victory is both historical and relevant today. It explains how an 18thC ship of the line was built, rigged, and fought & shows the complexity of sailing & why these ships demanded such large crews!

Ceremonial historic sail ship SHTANDART modelled after first Russian Baltic Fleet warship has been barred entry from both Norway and Denmark last weeks.
Was accepted to some EU-countries earlier this summer despite sanctions.

Question: What surprised you most on your first sailing voyage?
Could Cornwall and the Scilly Islands be poised to get an electric ferry? www.businessgreen.com/news/4517227...
“There's been a watertight scientific & economic case on the need to stop bottom trawling in marine protected areas”
Only 38 of 377 MPAs are fully protected from bottom trawling. It's shocking.

What's your favourite knot and why?
Mine's the humble clove hitch. It may seem innocuous, BUT... with small amendments it becomes a slip knot, constrictor knot, rolling or riggers hitch, buntline hitch and many more...
Tell us yours!

What’s your ideal role onboard — Helm? Sail trim? Lookout? First in line to climb aloft?
If there is a reason to go out on the end of the bowsprit, I'm there! I also love to teach traditional skills to trainees and sailing guests! Knots, terminology, ropework etc

Been sailing before? What are your top tips for first time sailors?
My top tips:
1) Think about what you want to get out of your voyage and ask the crew questions.
2) Always bring snacks to share!
3) If you can go aloft, do!

What was your biggest ‘*oh wow!*’ moment at sea?
I think seeing a basking shark was pretty special.
But for me, was beating the fleet of trad boats to the first buoy at Falmouth Classics and then looking back at the madness we'd managed to avoid was pretty specular! 😅
