While most young alphas were rounded up and sent to alpha-only schools where they could participate in alpha-optimised activities such as running and wrestling, his parents sent him to the little local mixed school in Morepesok. They said that a ‘normal’ childhood would be best for him, so off he went, stumbling under the weight of his overstuffed backpack to mix with the omegas and betas of the village. Like all young boys, he’d carried with him the hope of making a few friends to take home for dinner on a Friday night. Although there were some students who hadn’t taken The Test, he was the only known alpha in his class of a dozen, and because of that, it seemed as though not a single teacher knew what to do with him. On the very first day of school, when he sat at his desk waiting to be handed his pen and paper, his teacher walked right by him, and once every other child had received their stationery, she opened the door, gesturing him out with a sweep of her arm. “There you go, Ajax. You can run a few laps while the others learn their letters. Have fun now!” Ajax stared at his empty desk, rubbing the wood with the rabbit eraser his Mother gave him as a starting school present. “Can’t I learn my letters too?”
