Close-up of a man's face, smoggy black and white, grainy. His black mask covers his face nose down; his head fills the left two-thirds of the square; one pale eye is visible, staring into the camera--a dim sky behind him, a streak of light.

A 35 year old letter to the editor, written by a very ballsy 15 year old, about the Rodney King verdict.
Remembering today that having your heart broken is a necessary step on the path to becoming fully human. Whichever heartbreak is your first, it’s probably critical that a state break your heart so that you can develop a political imagination. If this is your first, I’m sorry and also welcome.
ICE detention data updated today. The line keeps going up. Highest detention population on record.
Beatings every 30 minutes. Beating genitals. Forcing men to drink filthy bath and toilet water. This is the report that Paramount/Skydance pulled down as part of its campaign to curry favor with the President for its bid to buy Warner Brothers. I'll discuss on @theweeknightmsnbc.bsky.social tonight.
Well done UC Berkeley.
Well done Human Rights Watch.
Well done CECOT survivors.
Well done 60 Minutes.
watching the CECOT 60 Minutes segment that CBS suppressed, it’s striking that Weiss specifically called out as unnecessary some of the most rigorous investigative work in the segment, including an explanation of how it was done (by human rights researchers)
On Sunday, @60minutes.bsky.social pulled a segment on torture against US deportees in CECOT, El Salvador's mega prison.
Curious what the story said? Read HRW and @cristosal.bsky.social's report: www.hrw.org/news/2025/11...
Yes and support local and global human rights orgs like @cristosal.bsky.social and @hrw.org who also work to expose the truth. www.hrw.org/report/2025/...
The fact that it's "political" is the problem. Human rights SHOULD be apolitical & non-partisan. Either way, the end result of these manuevers is more attention to the illegality of the deportations and depravity of CECOT. www.nytimes.com/2025/12/21/b...
she's just doing what she was hired to do
Curious what the story showed? See our @hrw.org research: www.hrw.org/report/2025/.... US gov responsibility for torture and abuse.
It tells me that our @hrw research exposed the truth. The US gov sent people to torture and abuse. www.hrw.org/report/2025/...
Yep. I’m sure that was the right news call and not at all something embarrassing and weird
If you want to know what CBS backed down from showing, read our research here: www.hrw.org/report/2025/.... There's no sugar coating what the US government did.
Oh, look there: an editorial-interference canary.
What? How often does 60 Minutes suddenly postpone a show? As @hrw.org has reported, there's substantial evidence of torture and sexual abuse of the people the US sent to CECOT (most of whom had no violent criminal record). Media should be reporting on it and demanding answers.
With three weeks left in the year, Oakland is on track to have among the lowest, if not the lowest, violent crime rate in decades, while it had one of the fewest number of officers in OPD's history.
NEW: Bulgaria’s delayed decommissioning of coal-fired power plants contributes to dangerous air pollution, risks breaching new air quality standards, and is slowing down the country’s transition away from fossil fuels. www.hrw.org/news/2025/12...
Amazing. Congratulations Ingrid.
As new details come out about follow-up strikes on a boat in the Caribbean Sea, a reminder that each of these attacks sets a dangerous precedent for a United States government that is trying to use a non-existent armed conflict to justify dozens of patently unlawful killings.
So proud of my colleagues @fightforthefuture.org and the massive coalition of local folks that made this happen www.mercurynews.com/2025/11/19/o...
NEW: The Israeli government’s forced displacement of the populations of three West Bank refugee camps in January and February 2025 amount to war crimes and crimes against humanity.

In Bovino's upside down world, there is no difference between an armed gang member preying on others in his community and a guy working 12 hours a day washing cars, flipping burgers, or installing sheetrock to feed his family — and he wants you to hate and fear both men equally.

NEW: The Venezuelan nationals the US government sent to El Salvador in March and April were tortured and subjected to other abuses, including sexual violence.
In a new report, HRW and @cristosal.bsky.social provide a comprehensive account of the treatment of these people in El Salvador.
Chart showing the median age of U.S. homebuyers rose from about 31 in the early 80s to 59 today.
This chart and its implications are absolutely bonkers. From Axios. www.axios.com/2025/11/04/h...
Has it been 30 yrs? I was at SF show a couple nights prior, aged 16 about to be 17. The Amps record had only been out a week and I freaked out when Kim Deal walked on stage to open. So exciting.
