I feel like we need to keep saying this because it’s so insane: This is a legal U.S. resident who has been detained for over a month now for his political opinions.

Culver City eliminated mandatory parking by a 3-2 vote in 2022.

A redline showing the old parking mandates versus Culver City’s amended parking regulation: “there shall be no minimum required parking for any use, except as may be determined through a Comprehensive Plan.” Almost everything else is repealed.

You can draw a straight line from Donald Shoup’s effective way of sharing his scholarship with the public to policy changes in hundreds of cities.

RIP professor and author Donald Shoup who showed us the heavy toll we all pay when we build communities around cars instead of people. He lived to see parking minimums be abolished in much of our cities thanks to @repfriedmanca.bsky.social and Shoup’s decades of research at UCLA.
