WCK Chef Corps member Aline Kamakian joined CNN from Beirut to give an update about our efforts in Lebanon. We have served more than 1 million meals since March 2, and we’re not stopping. (1/2)

But as we Albertans know, it can get worse... I hope this is the death blow to the party. Time will tell.

Because he definitely respects what voters want. That's why he ran in Battle River, right?

Reposting this cuz it's important, if you live in Canada and use roads *in whatever capacity* (driver, cyclist, pedestrian, public transit) our government needs to hear from you

The top part of the Moon is illuminated. The gray cratered surface stands out against the blackness of space. The Earth appears in the far distance as an upside-down crescent moon shape. There is some lens flare in the top part and center of the image. Credit: NASA

I have read a statement
that “a whole civilization
will die tonight,
never to be brought back again,”
and as I read that statement
and as I reread that statement
I cannot shake the feeling
that the civilization
from which that statement comes
is one that is already dead.

Education property taxes are in the news, so here are some charts. Calgary now provides ~35% of the provincial share of property taxes collected for education.

Across the board, Albertans have seen 3 years of big increases to their taxes after a period of flat and even declining tax collection.

This is also my cut off point. I used to feel like I had to finish the books. If you can't hook me into the story in 50 pages, I probably won't enjoy the rest. The library is the best for this. Hate the book? Return it!

Alberta's significant decline in toxic drug deaths already showing cracks In the span of one month, reported overdose deaths in May of this year have climbed from 73 to 87, a 19.2% increase over the originally released data

🧵 Remember two summers ago when the Alberta government congratulated itself for allowing 'just' 73 drug toxicity deaths in May 2024?

And a very small number of people suggested that their number was bullshit?

We were right. It was. 1/

With a sigh, my friend said
that this is a bad time
for people who care
about education,
and the planet,
about public health
and democracy,
about humanity
and the humanities,
so I asked her
when was it a good time?
and she replied: fair,
but this is a particularly bad time.

So true. There's just always "something going around" and people have "a cough that just won't go away".

I cannot tell you
exactly where I was
six years ago
when I first heard
that Covid
was officially a pandemic,
however I can tell you
that where I am
six years later
is constantly hearing
people wonder
why they’re always sick.

I sat at my desk
reading the news
and worrying
that the world
as I knew it
was about to end,
but now
things are different,
yes, now
as I sit at my desk
reading the news
and worrying
that the world
as I know it
is about to end
I am sitting
in a different chair.

Today's abysmal jobs report is a reminder that tax cuts for corporations and the rich don’t create jobs or grow the economy.

What's required is investment in working people — and better wages.

When workers have money to spend, the economy grows and businesses create more jobs.

Remember this.

Drove by one near Okotoks a couple of weeks ago. No one stopped to sign. Then a few days ago on 16 Ave. Had their table set up, but were warming up in their trucks, since no one was stopping either.

Lloyd Axworthy: Canada once rejected America’s aggressive, unlawful foreign policy. Today Mark Carney embraced it By endorsing preventive strikes on Iran during ongoing diplomacy, and after Washington itself shredded the previous agreement, we are embracing the very doctrine we used to reject, writes Lloyd Axwort...

Lloyd Axworthy is a former Liberal Minister of Foreign Affairs whom I deeply admire and respect. This article should be read by every Canadian.

Mark Carney: The American world order is based on lies, intimidation, and unequal application of international law. We need something new.

Also Mark Carney: We support America doing the thing we just said was bad, this time it’s actually good.
