With the travel grant, I was docked points (it's a normal procedure for the evaluations) because I was a full prof...so at least they favoured ECRs.

Thanks! It is a big relief.
Being awarded an NSERC DG one week and having an internal travel grant declined the next week is a feeling I never thought I would experience. Oh well...failure is normal, and success finds a way.
Will the bubble curtain be air or CO2?
Cool paper - I'm definitely adding this to anglerfish lecture!
When Australians poison dingos, they call them wild dogs.
When Canadians poison ground squirrels, they call them gophers.
Awful stuff, will kill hawks, foxes etc. that eat poisoned squirrels. Weirdly, Health Canada claims that there is a 'safe level' of strychnine 🤡

I'm surprised they say this is the first study...my honours student published on this topic (for Lake Winnipeg) in this journal!
Stephen, you need some whiskey bottles!
Thanks, Katie! This is a cool paper, too. It's suggests the CAWS has fairly polluted water, and the carp don't have healthy mRNA profiles (doi.org/10.1016/j.cb...)
Oddly enough, I lectured on the bigheaded carp invasion yesterday! I don't think the adult population front has moved much in the last 10 years...is that right?
But! Fish don't exist...so, feel free to call them unicorns and dragons.
By accepting the president’s invitation, Hellebuyck and most of his American teammates cemented themselves as characters in the narrative of a political leader with tyrannical aspirations who has spent the last year dismantling one of the world’s oldest democracies.

Dr. Sanoji Wijenayake discussed human milk nanovesicles.
We face two potential missteps in ecophysiology: 1) measuring animals under socially unrealistic conditions & 2) extrapolating results to nature, where social dynamics alter trait expression, plasticity, & evolutionary outcomes. Our new commentary in @jexpbiol.bsky.social : doi.org/10.1242/jeb....
Neat. A PDF from my lab shows stress axis is altered in lake trout offspring after their moms are treated as if caught and releases. doi.org/10.1002/jez....
You should buy these books...the editing is stellar :)

Confused writing is usually a symptom of confused thinking. As we struggle to clarify writing, we clarify our thoughts. AI writing aids rob us of that struggle, leaving clean-looking text and thoughts still confused for lack of inspection. Writing is not just a product; it is a diagnostic tool.
Nonnative species have been introduced to all regions worldwide - including Antarctica and the most remote islands. Numbers of nonnative species of all taxa are increasing across all regions, often accelerating, and likely underestimated. #bioinvasions
