Do you really think it’s more likely that China will now put pressure on Iran? I don’t. But we’ll see.
It doesn’t have to be a symmetrical response—China can exert pressure on the US in many other ways. E.g. many of the missiles, fighter jets, … that the US needs for its war effort rely on Chinese-made critical raw materials, particularly rare earths. Xi and Trump are supposed to meet in May.

Is the hope here that Iran will cave in more quickly under financial pressure than the U.S. would under a collapsing global economy? I’m skeptical. And I also don’t really see the Chinese letting their ships be blocked.
