Yeah, I read some of it as simply 'how dare these people imply that I'm not still a progressive', whether or not she believes it or not. Patel and Braverman wouldn't react the same because such criticism wasn't coming from what they see as their in group.
Yes, and also worth saying that the PM at the time was fairly desperate to get him through as appointing him as a cabinet minister was basically the price he paid to avoid getting couped by the Blairites. The Labour Party!
I do have to say as well, read very literally, 'it shouldn't have happened' is Keir Starmer's stance too so you can't even be accused of breaking collective cabinet responsibility lol
There is a reason he takes the ADHD meds now
@aremay.bsky.social hi bun. I reported an anecdote from your past, I imagine you know which one, and well this isn't quite how I put it
The wife is also a huge fan of Constanța's favourite son, Sebastian Stan and was simply delighted when in Captain America: civil war his character was found holed up in a Bucharest flat.
This is the text I sent Nute after seeing Brave New World.
*Great bulking beautiful men who might throw a hammer at someone at any moment
I do have to say my favourite thing about the latest Captain America movie was seeing that they remembered that the Eternals happened.
Yeah, I liked Eternals even whilst acknowledging it was a mess because I like weird shit
You have never debated someone like Nute before
Yes, that's also true. And tbf to him, his strategy has put the party in a very strong position should a hung parliament or small Labour majority emerge.
Yeah you think my opinions on Thor are unpopular, wait until you hear the full sweep of Nute's
It's great! People have allowed the Dark World to cloud their opinion of a tremendous film. Go rewatch it. Tell me you don't have a huge amount of fun.
I think more than that the party is fundamentally pulled between complex electoral incentives and its very messy internal democracy
The first Thor is an underrated classic and I will hear no criticism
A lot of it since then has seemingly been 'look how much IP we have' which feels like the sort of thing that plays well to an investors but not so much to audiences. Legitimately rolled my eyes when Kelsey Grammar Beast turned up in the Marvels post credit scene.
It's kind of amazing on its own that we're 5 years on from Shang-Chi, a film that did well and was good, and all we know about 'Untitled Shang-Chi sequel' is that it is supposedly coming.
He just truthsocialled it out...
Yeah, I think it's definitely something to do with social media. We've all been given a little soap box and can be treated as representatives of 'our side'
I mean he doesn't really have any line on it, see comment about lack of economic policy agenda.
Fails on 'thinks austerity was a mistake' as a former coalition minister and would also require him to develop an actual economic policy agenda
"You are not allowed to have an opinion on the governance of the country unless you can produce an ideal replacement candidate" strikes me as rather undemocratic in many ways.
Mandelson's appointment to the Lords was in 2008, so I have no idea what the Appointments Commission said at the time though I think it's worth noting a lot less of what we know now was known then of course.
All appointments to the Lords are vetted by the Appointments Commission, though PMs retain the ability to disregard their advice.
It's also well documented that Trumpworld did not react well to Mandelson being floated initially.
@timbale.bsky.social can you think of anyone who might be interested?
The new Captain America may in fact be the most egregious as it expects you to remember Falcon and the Winter Soldier, a show I do not remember having watched it because it was so dull, and the Ed Norton Incredible Hulk film.
