My mother was a pediatrician at the Medical College of VA. While resident, Whooping cough swept through the neonatal nursery killing all the babies in it. She became a physiatrist, or rehab doctor, and ran a large Polio ward and a ward full of children in iron lungs. We are returning to those days.
