Yeah, actually, I enjoy this a lot. I enjoy trying to carve out tidier, more elegant abstractions in an existing project.

IDK, I sometimes think about it like trail maintenance. Someone else forged the path, but somebody's gotta cut back the overgrowth or maybe fix that little footbridge. I'm game.

Google shoehorned Rust into Pixel 10 modem to make legacy code safer Cellular modems are complex black boxes of legacy code, but Google is making them safer with Rust.

That little DNS project I started about 10 years ago is making some news with Google! This is definitely because so many people have jumped in to help contribute here. Special call out to @djc.ochtman.nl who’s picked up a huge amount of slack for me in the last year.

I suspect the Pope sounds "woke" to many Christian conservatives because the US is steeped in prosperity theology, where the point of worship is to deliver health and wealth to believers. Thus, "feed the hungry" and "show mercy for the poor" sounds needlessly political and "woke."

@adamchalmers.com, apparently there's a cafe near my work that does affogato, so now we can have Affogato Friday in the PNW too.

Look, I still waffle back and forth on whether I tolerate or hate the mess of AI-generated code I see these days, but AI-generated music is a goddamned scourge. It'll be a cold day in hell when I accept AI-generated music. Fuck that noise.

I've got my gripes with LLMs, but discovering that the "open-slopware" people have written off cURL because the core maintainer uses LLMs for code review and their suggested alternative is "an older version; wget?" is pretty damn funny to me. πŸ€ͺ

I wonder if this implies a redesign as well or if they plan for a framework migration with no style changes. πŸ€”

Thoughts on slowing the fuck down Thoughts on slowing the fuck down

This really resonated with me. I'm still begrudgingly using LLMs in my work. It's a mixed bag. I find it works best when I'm very hands-on, slow, and intentional. I don't have swarms of agents running around doing my job and I think that's for the best. mariozechner.at/posts/2026-0...

ECMAScript Euphoria! πŸŽ‰

We don't always post when a single proposal advances, but when we do, it's Temporal -> Stage 4.

Just days shy of 9 years from Stage 1, a herculean effort on the part of many champions, delegates, invited experts, and contributors, past and present. Thank you all! πŸ™Œ

Picture of Marjane Satrapi alongside a quote from her. The quote reads:

The world is not divided into countries. The world is not divided between East and West. You are American, I am Iranian, we don't know each other, but we talk together and we understand each other perfectly. The difference between you and your government is much bigger than the difference between you and me. And the difference between me and my government is much bigger than the difference between me and you.

And our governments are very much the same...

- Marjane Satrapi, Iranian-French graphic novelist

”The distinction between programmer and user is reinforced and maintained by a tech industry that benefits from a population rendered computationally passive. If we accept and adopt the role of less agency, we then make it harder for ourselves to come into more agency.”
