Hey all, I'm gonna be pulling the hard breaks on my social media presence. The 2nd image will have the explanation for it, if you're curious, but the gist of it is:
- I'm gonna stop participating in social media (Bsky & Mastodon).
- If you need to find me, I'll be on Discord, Twitch and the Critter Time forums.
- This is until further notice. The only reason I might come back is if something major happens in my life to warrant it.
- I'm not deleting my accounts.

First off, I'm gonna say that I have met some lovely people and also the love of my life thanks to social media. Some of my best friends came from interacting on Twitter, Bsky or Mastodon. I am also aware I'm denying myself new friendships and people by bailing, but I'm too tired, dawg.
The other day, I realized a mutual had unfollowed me and I wondered what the hell I did? I've been trying to be more myself online and more genuine, so was it me being me? This isn't the first time it has happened, as some people I had on my *stream* have blocked me and talked shit about me on socials. Well, turns out, I was following someone problematic and I had no idea about it because I was not online enough to know (btw, the person did suck and I did unfollow them after realizing it).
But this made me realize, what the fuck am I even doing? I'm stressing out over people no longer wishing to interact with me because one of 999 people I follow is a shit and I didn't know about it? I'm getting purity-tested online and stressing over it, like some fucking idiot.
This isn't the actual reason I'm bailing, it's like the 1000th of a thousand cuts. I am tired of corporations setting up an environment for me and my friends, using said environment, and then it gets enshittified, or bought out, or a random change in policy fucks everything up for all of us.
I am tired of how social media has enabled the rise of fascism globally, endagering me and my loved ones almost daily.
I am tired of people being, frankly, dumb as fuck and needing every joke explained, lacking any sort of reading comprehension or media literacy, while acting like experts on various subjects, or just being culture war grifters.
I genuinely think the world would be better off if social media and social algorithms of all kinds were just outlawed. For all the good it has done, it's done tenfold in harm.
Am I denying myself meeting new excellent people? Yes.
Am I denying myself seeing cool people make cool creative things? Yes.
Am I denying myself my own growth as a creative by sharing my work, gaming or art, with more people? Yes.
Do I care? Yes.
And that's why I'm bailing.
