This spring is the beginning of the 10 year anniversary of so many horrible and great things, that all arrived on top of each other. Going from the job to casting a webseries to visiting mom in the hospital to taking the cat to the vet all on the same day kind of stuff

Nothing lights a fire under my ass better than a deadline

Just found out that Shelf Indulgence, used bookstore and one of my favorite places in Sarasota, will be relocating to Virginia. The wonderful staff, great selection of SFF, delicious ice coffee and sandwiches was my cocaine. I wrote most of two novels there. www.shelfindulgenceusedbooks.com
Yup! It's weird because Winter Soldier has something interesting to say, moves well, and has some genuinely touching moments, but every MCU film the Russos have directed since then has felt increasingly like a StC beatsheet.
Yeah that was some bullshit
Somehow, Palpatine returned, is about the level of explanation I feel like I'm going to get
Endgame was so tired after an actually decent first half that I felt like the whole thing had become too self referential and was disappearing up its own nostalgia hole. I could just force myself to read Save The Cat again.
Nice try Kash Patel burner account... No you can't have any.
Light From Uncommon Stars made me ugly cry in the best way
I've heard great things about Lincoln...
This is the way
Ahh sorry correction I read Sing, Unburied Sing by Ward! I have her other books on my shelf (it's a mess) but have not read the Salvage The Bones yet. She's amazing!
In "Face Off" he summoned so many doves even Prince was jealous
Friday night dog vs. Monday morning job interview
Salvage The Bones by Jesmyn Ward (lit)
Light From Uncommon Stars by Ryka Aoki (Sff)
A Moment In The Sun by John Sayles (historical fic)
Beyond The Rice Fields by Naivo (historical fic)
The Passion by Jeanette Winterson (fantasy)
The Hakawati by Rabih Alemeddine
These gave me all the feelings
Oh absolutely!
The tie wraps that will last about a month before you have to troubleshoot and unbundle them when a connection stops working. Or you leave it in the bundle, label the ends and run the new cable loose outside the bundle, lying to yourself that you'll "make it look good" later
Some things I really miss:
Business cards. Yes they're a PITA and often they sit in a pile after you're done with a conference. But what's replaced it is worse - an ephemeral "follow" on Insta, an app I have no control over. It's just as much work as a contact management tool if not more
Ah, interesting!
Did you miss yesterday's fab talk on bodily transformation and horror in British and Irish traditional songs?
Watch it here!

Yeah I just can't with Griffith. I get how influential he was but there's other filmmakers out there. Folks who want to watch historically important cinema could watch Murnau instead.
Ah interesting, I didn't know that about Dixon and Wilson being friends.
They're very competent at blocking progress to the left, while the GOP keeps moving further into the fascism/death cult zone. They're great at taking orders from the same pool of rich donors and corps that also feeds the GOP.
Awesome!
That's interesting. I'm guessing then that Griffith being the showman he was, either misquoted Wilson or used the private screening as an implicit seal of approval (not letting Wilson off the hook btw)
It's crazy how much influence that one movie had. Didn't help that Pres Wilson was reportedly a fan and an unrepentant racist
What kills me is when folks try to defend him or BoAN as being "of their time." WEB DuBois published Souls of Black Folk in 1903. The Harlem Renaissance was in its early stages by 1910. Stories of lynching by Ida B Wells had been published in the late 1800s. So what "time" are they talking about?
I have ADHD. As a kid yes I was some times destructive or self destructive, but I had teachers and therapists who worked w/me to figure it out rather than than just restrain me. Eventually I could figure out for myself when I needed a timeout.
Caveat: I'm not a professional. But folks are rarely violent without reason. It could be a bad reaction to meds, frustration/stress but there's no more positive outlet, etc Restraint might be nec. in the moment but it has to be coupled w/figuring out how to help the person not get to that point
