A6 I want to do some book talk slides with quick bullet points and find some classes/students to help create them. Haven’t started this yet! #TLSkyChat
A5 Picking an old book they’ve heard about 20 times. Assuming everyone will like every book/genre you do. Not thinking about their interests. Those are some things that could kill a book talk. #TLSkyChat
A4 If I connected booktalks to a trend, I’d probably either connect them to a popular show or movie or tie in something with six seven. #TLSkyChat
A3 If I go too over the top the middle schoolers will know I’m not being authentic. That said I naturally talk with my hands a lot and have a very expressive tone and face. 😂 So that helps. I also try to put in things they’ll relate to or questions. #TLSkyChat
A2. Trying to make it relevant to that group/age/topic. I also look for connections to the state list, upcoming events, etc. #TLSkyChat
A1 There were some good opening lines about lighting striking, someone being in the dark, someone using a fake name, etc. when I set up Blind Dates with a Book recently. I need to save some of those best opening lines next time! #TLSkyChat #schoollibraries
Hopping in an hour late to #TLSKYChat! Been a full day! But got to chat with lots of librarians today, always a bonus! I’m JoyAnn, a middle school librarian in central Indiana.
🚀✨ T-minus 1 hour to #TLSkyChat!

I like to celebrate the Ides of March on March 15 in our school library. Got any ideas of ways that we could celebrate this year? #shakespeare #tlsky
Soooooooo excited! The Association of Indiana School Library Educators is hosting @jarredamato.bsky.social next Tuesday night. The current AISLE Chair, lovely @simplyrain.bsky.social, and myself as Past Chair, will get to host/moderate. Thanks @ilfonline.bsky.social for making this possible!
I used blogs &examples online to help plan. Shoutout to a blog that mentioned tracking which books are used! (I just scanned the barcodes in an Excel sheet &typed the title beside it; just in case someone needed one. Plus it’ll help me quantify the data…which sometimes I forget to do.) 3/3
Here’s my template - www.canva.com/design/DAHAH... I put 3 per page and printed. It went up Thursday, and was booming today! I had to refill it nonstop today! Love that type of problem. 2/3
Blind date with a book library display.
Example of a book with a brown paper bag over it and the barcode, first line, and words to describe it written on it.

I finally did Blind Date with a Book this year! Been wanting to try it for years! Long story short - early February is always a busy time, I’m not efficient at wrapping, and I sometimes have to hurdle over my own perfectionism. Enter the brown paper lunch bag to the rescue! 1/3 #tlsky #schoollibrary
Picture books aren’t just for young readers. Teachers can introduce them as a jumping off point to help middle school students sharpen their literacy skills! 📖

Everybody, do yourselves a favor and watch and share The Librarians, a phenomenal film about the librarian heroes putting everything on the line to keep books on shelves. @thelibrariansfilm.bsky.social youtu.be/ywQOCY-qDzE
I gathered some middle school geared Olympic resources or curriculum tie in ideas to share with my teachers in a Wakeket. I’ll share them here too: wakelet.com/wake/UeCHcjU... ⛷️ #tlsky #schoollibrary #olympics #middleschool #edusky
I think I forgot what it was like to have free time there for a few months. Yeesh. But I am alive and should be entering a period of more free time soon! Starting to get some glimpses of it! #TLSkyChat
Awesome! Thank you for sharing these resources! I’ll look them all over. @slupodcast.bsky.social is the best! Love her. I’ll have to find your episode on there too! #TLSkyChat
Nice. Yeah! We are a Microsoft school, but I do have a personal gmail account that I’ve made some things in Slides before for school or conferences or things.
Too many other things I want to read! I don’t have time for that!
A8 Feels welcoming. If students feel welcome, they see themselves and others there and feel like it’s a space they can be regulated and be themselves. Regulation is hard when you’re neurodiverse. Libraries are often a place that gives space for that. #TLSkyChat
Right?! I was like, I met her! Exciting!
A7 I had it in the background while eLearning and actually got to half watch it live for once! I was so excited to see Arriel Vinson be honored! She lives in Indiana, and I got to see her speak at a friend’s store this fall and get my book signed! #TLSkyChat
SAAAAMMMEEEE! My response was so similar. I relate to this hard! #TLSkyChat
A6 Tables with wheels! I dream of having more movable furniture. My furniture is great, but it is all heavy and terribly hard to rearrange for things. Heavy couches and wooden tables and chairs. More movable furniture is my dream. #TLSkyChat
Yes! Junior high kids can also sense out the fakers. They hate it when people are inauthentic. Makes me think of Holden Caulfield and the phonies. #TLSkyChat
A5 Cont’d - anything. If there’s any mention of bullying, I’ll offer to reach out to my AP for the student. I see us as being a connector to other resources/books/people that they need, and I think if we keep our doors open, they do too. #TLSkyChat
A5 Sometimes a student will share that they are grieving and sometimes they ask for a book with a character that is also grieving or sometimes they ask for a funny book or a distraction. When a student is visibly upset, I try to check on them and see if they need to talk to a counselor or #TLSkyChat
