Holy shit, dude. Way to tell on yourself.
This has nothing to do with being pedantic. You're literally one of the people this post is talking about...

I'm getting real tired of the "we can disagree and still be friends" crowd. Because everyone who pulls that line only ever does so to justify bigotry.

No, we can't disagree on basic human rights.

... as someone who's had their health permanently shattered (and who knows plenty of people like me), making a comparison between being bored/not being able to play the newest AAA game to a pandemic that killed people and left many disabled is a horrendous take.

There were so many cool things in the #warframe PAX stream, but having slept on it and it still rubbing me wrong:

Rocco comparing not being able to play games to the pandemic was.... Really icky.

Yes, the PC part crisis sucks (and the reason behind it is fucking disgusting) but...

AI impoverishes us at every step of the process:
- data centers pollute our environment
- energy use drives up costs
- content theft robs creators of income
- the actual output is used to displace workers and depress wages
- using it harms our mental health and impairs our competence
- the flood of AI slop is damaging our sociopolitical landscape

All in service of making a worse product - and world - to enrich a handful of already spectacularly wealthy people

While defending the luddite argument in Discord, I stumbled into this IMO succinct explanation for opposing generative AI:

At every step in the process, it impoverishes us.

I can't even stand sandals/flipflops that have a strap between the first and second toe... this looks like an utter nightmare

The legs aren't bound together. This is just a result of humans being very, very shitty with selective breeding. They're bred to have weakened tendons, muscles and bone structure.
Reason: They're much easier to herd when they can't run, jump or climb.
Still animal cruelty, but of a different kind.

Like, it's very clear that it's fascist bullshit of eradicating minorities from any form of visibility so they can kill us better, but I can't help thinking that that correlation is ... interesting.

Since the Steam situation is the newest bee in my bonnet ... am I the only one who finds it interesting that after the AAA Industry was freaking out about indie games it is now the two biggest platforms for indie developers to be able to monetize their games that are being attacked?

I feel like people also forget that growth is not infinitely sustainable. At one point or another the audience for any given venture has reached it's saturation. Even with a social media platform that generally caters to a vast variety of people, there are only so many people around.

Getting back to it. I'm feeling rusty as hell, but I'm happy to get some art in again. So, some Warframe fanart it is.

Loosely shaded digital chest-up sketch of Arthur Nightingale, a character from the 1999 expansion of the Warframe game. He is a battle-hardened ex-soldier with scars on the left side of his face and one whited-out eye, also on the left. He has short dark hair with floppy, white bangs framing his face. His body is encased in plated biomechanical armor that reaches up to his chin. He is wearing an equipment harness with ammo pouches and a radio, and is wearing a pair of dog tags. He has an earring in his left ear.

Joe Shmoe wouldn't have paid an artist to make his picture of his anime waifu with a bunny tail in a swim suit, sure, but companies are actively replacing artists.

And Kevin and little Timmy using AI to make their cheap slop is continuing to further the tech and enabling companies to do this.

"The people who use AU would've never paid a real human artist anyway" and this is where you're wrong.
The amount of artists and developers who have been laid off in recent times only for it to come out that the companies have embraced AI to replace them is proof enough of that.

Bringing this back because this has been my life for the last week:

yeah there's a lot of "create weird art" and not a lot of "your favorite artist can't balance their shitty dayjob and emergency expenses with creating art" or "your favorite artist is burnt out because they've been doing more commissions than personal art for years"

I have a weak spot for the kind of old-timey fairy stories. Where they're just as likely to tear you to pieces as they are to help you. And A LOT in From reminds me of that. From the creatures to just the general world. There are rules, even if they aren't always obvious, but the danger is so real.

I need to continue watching. Some of the best series I've watched in a long time!

No. The man gets 0 say about what happens to the woman's body. She carries all the risk, all the pain and discomfort that comes with a pregnancy, she is the one who will be suffering from being a mother when she wants to get back to work...
So, no. You don't get a say. Not even 1%.

1 year ago 5 0 0 0

Whoosh.

Maybe you need to work on your literacy, my guy.

Yes. Abstinence IS the best way to prevent an unplanned pregnancy. But the point of this is if a dude who will never carry the risks of a pregnancy wants to prevent abortions, it is on HIM to keep his fucking dick to himself.

A man known as the Drifter sits in his totally rad 90's outfit in front of an old CRT monitor. He's leaning on one hand, looking glum about whatever he's seeing on the illuminated screen. The lyrics to On-lyne's "The Great Despair" are written around the illustration:

"This obsession has turned into The Great Despair"

We see the screen now: it's a desktop with the colorful, Duviri sky over a lush, green field. There's a friend list for a chat program on the left side of the screen. The lyrics continue:

"I keep thinking I see you"

The contact list is closer now - every single person on it is listed as offline, as they have been since hitting the rank of Best Friend. There's a talk bubble to the side that has a chibi version of the Drifter's face with a recreation of a crying emoticon (specifically ╥﹏╥). He is truly suffering. The lyrics don't help him.

"And there's nobody there..."

The true meaning of "The Great Despair," and the legit worst part of #Warframe 1999: when you hit Best Friends with everyone, and the daily messages stop coming. :( I'm begging you, DE: don't punish me for doing bounties. T_T

@foxsyn.bsky.social suggested this, and it is PAINFULLY ACCURATE.

Tonight's quick reminder: if someone posts a creative work, do not offer your critique unless the creator explicitly asked for it.

Unsolicited advice is criticism, always.

If you're an author or musician, don't bother following me if you have a generated AI banner or icon, I'll just block you. I'm not interested in puzzling out whether you're a thief or just a hypocrite.
